Question Android Auto update for headunit ?

Hey guys!

I've looked everywhere for a solution but couldn't find any.. Do y'all know if there's a way to update the firmware of my headunit to get Android Auto ?

I don't have any Chevy stealership and the people that are supposedly some type of GM representative where I live never heard of that request before

Is there a tool that exist to program or flash the module ? Kinda like Forscan for Ford..? I have Forscan for my Mustang and it works flawlessly for all the modules.

Thanks!

He's in Europe and may have the EU/Asia export trim that's on a different software schedule. Nevertheless, an update should be available for those cars as well, the problem is how to get to a competent dealership that can apply it. Just a shot in the dark, but maybe an Opel dealership in Germany would be able to perform this?

What do you mean by upgrading it? Your 2016 Camaro screen should simply act as a projection display for the main Android Auto (and Apple CarPlay, too) when you connect it to your car via the USB port located inside the center console armrest. All updates to Android Auto are made on the smartphone itself, not on the car.

What you could really check is: IS YOUR ANDROID AUTO turned to ON? Go inside the options menu and look for Android Auto and/or Apple CarPlay and check if the option is currently active. If it's not, the car will not start projecting the phone screen.

See you!!,

I might start looking into reverse engineering it whenever I'll have some more free time.

I'm in the EU but my Camaro is a US model. I used to live in the US before and I recently moved to the EU.

There's a few Opel dealerships around here but I doubt that they would be able to help. I'll give it a shot though. Thanks !

I went to check a specialist that's "supposedly" GM approved and they never heard of that requested before either. They started to ask me about my VIN etc.. with some odd questions but I gave up on them. (They don't have a good reputation around here).

Hey bud! So my 2016 does have the projection display but whatever android device or usb cable I use it doesn't recognize anything. (I tried 3 different Android phones and 5 type-c cables lol)

However, when I connect an iPhone the projection display changes to Apple CarPlay.

I checked in the settings menu and I can only see CarPlay but no Android Auto.

Thanks y'all for your time!

I have a 2017 EU model. It has Android Auto and Apple Carplay.

As far as I know, all Gen 6 Camaros had both systems from start of production.

That's odd.. I have another car and AA works fine with the same phone and cable but not in the Camaro

early 2016's with the 8" screen did not come with android auto support. a software update was needed.

this cannot be done diy. it requires some nonsense gm software and update process.

there is an alternative if available still from gen5diy.. you can get a new hmi unit with aa and all that installed. then you just swap that module in and you are good to go
