Convertible top staining cover

Hi all, just picked up a brand new 2019 Summit White ZL1 vert. When I put the top down the first time I noticed what looked like “stains” where the fabric had damaged the paint on the white cover panel for the top. Dealer said they would take care of it, wet-sand and repaint. Went to pick it up and still saw some. They are repainting it again but they think it’s definitely the top basically imprinting on the cover. Anyone else seen this??? They are going to repaint it again and keep it inside with the top down for 5 days in the hopes that it doesn’t happen again. They’ve really been great throughout this whole ordeal but I’ve never seen anything like this.

Do you have a photo to post? Hard to picture the "stains" from your description. I can't even picture when the top comes in contact with any painted portion of the cover, up or down.

That seems unusual. I don’t think the top on my 2SS ever touches the painted areas of the hard tonneau. Where are the stains on yours?

If you just bought a 2019 convertible then it’s been sitting out on the dealer’s lot for at least a year. I can’t imagine that the top is bleeding dye after all that time. Seems more likely that the bottom edge of the top is damaged and rubbing the paint. Maybe check the bottom edge for damage if you haven’t already done that.

It’s pretty odd that the dealer is “ re-painting” this. That looks like a rubber seal scuff mark, which one would think could be buffed out. I’d have to drop the top on mine to see what actually touches and doesn’t, but painting and repainting doesn’t seem like a permanent solution.

It definitely is in the paint. You can’t feel it. I hit it with a buffer and couldn’t get it out.

Good suggestion. I’ll look.
It was the dealer GM’s Vehicle so was titled new but had some mileage.

Saw an area where the rubber looks like it has delaminated a bit. I bet that’s what’s causing some rubbing at one point but not sure how some of the other damage was done. Hopefully we can figure it out.

That certainly looks to be the culprit but the cloth on my top seems to be the same in the embarrassingly dusty picture below. Good luck getting it resolved. Maybe they just need to do a deep clean on the top fabric? Worst case maybe they can put some clear bra film on the hard tonneau in that section to keep the top from discoloring the paint below.

Just FYI from what I've see on other convertible posts there aren't any fixes for the convertible top. If there is a problem they tend to have to replace the whole top.

Another solution: Put some PPF on the tonneau.
