That's pretty crazy! I dont even think stock lugnuts fit in the hole on my MRR 716.

Yep they fit, I drove from Boca to Sebring, with no problem, only on the track I had the problems with the front

Glad this post helped other people
MRR should definitely let customers know, you need after market lug nuts

I have a question, is there a reason you torque to 140 ft/lbs? Most torque specs are in the 90 - 95 ft/lbs. range. I’ve honestly have never heard of going that high. I’ve been racing for many years & my mentors, one including Danny Kellermeyer, ‘Vette racer extraordinaire. We only torque to 90-95 range. I would think one would over stretch those threads...

140 lb ft is the spec in the Owner’s Manual

The difference is that those smaller cars have 12mm studs, which are not as strong, so you need less torque to properly tension them. Current Mustangs and Camaros (probably the Dodge barges too) use 14mm studs so that we can use the higher torque for more clamping force. When you're hustling a 3700-3900lb car with high grip, you want the extra clamping force between the wheel and hub face. The friction from that force is what holds the wheel in place, so it's important.

I bought 1LE replica wheels from MRR for my car and the website explicitly stated that you needed their recommended splined nuts for the wheels. Got the recommended nuts with the wheels, zero problems...

Wow, don’t know how I missed that! I stand corrected.
Full disclosure, I’ve only ever done 95 ft. lbs. and no issues.
I’ve got to dig into this a bit more for my curiosity. I’ve got several friends of mine that are engineers that actually work at GM on the Camaro & Vette projects. I’ll see them tomorrow at the races and see what they know. Thanks again guys for pointing this out. JM

I purchased from distributor in Deerfield beach, no mention of using different lugs

The previous responses are correct that the lug studs are bigger and more capable. The 6th gen camaro got its lug studs upgraded to match the 14mm truck lug stud specs which have had a torque of 140 for quite some time. Likely reason for the change is so that a nearly 2-ton car that can pull more than 1g lat (at the higher trim levels at least) doesnt have any lug issues.

Sounds like the distributor missed some details themselves, neglected to tell you, or hid it in the fine print. Definitely can't use OE lug nuts with most aftermarket wheels, MRR included.

Well, it was almost two years ago. I'm a dumb ass by nature so if I wasn't warned, guarantee I would have had to go buy the lug nuts after realizing my stock nuts wouldn't work...

Hi Guys
Just reading about the MRR M017 an the aftermarket lug nuts needed.
Could you explain me why we need different lugs for the M017?
The seating are the same on the oem lug nuts. As well conical 60‘ and M14x1.5. So what should be exactly the difference on aftermarket lug nuts? And why should it be possible to damage the wheels with OEM lug nuts.
Maybe I am dumb to understand where the differences are on the seating.

Thx
