Weight Reduction Thread.
Hey guys, I wanted to start a Weigh reductions thread. As we start to tear into our cars if anyone comes accross a way to get rid of some weight here and there PLEASE post it here so we can compile the info. Anything from stock wheel weight vrs after market weight. Body pannels, seat changes etc etc... I remeber on my 06 gto you could remove the tow brace and net you 25 pounds right there. Anything like that would be praised i'm sure! THANKS GUYS!

I'm hoping someone comes up with a replacement back seat. I don't plan on using mine but some type of box or something like an indoor trunk or rear pockets. I owned a 91 CRX and it had something similar. On top it was carpeted and when you opened it there were molded pockets.

This is going to be interesting for sure. Even on Gen5 you were pretty much limited to wheels/tires and some exhaust before getting in to some serious $$$$ for weight loss. I mean, you could gut the interior some, but it made the DD aspects kinda crappy with heat/noise and creature comfort.
I know it can be done, but I think it'll hold the same like Gen5. Wheels/Tires will probably be your most cost effective in terms of weight and since it's all rotating, you'll feel/see the best returns. Followed by lighter two-piece rotors. You might save some on dump the manifolds, but I don't know if it'll offset the headers for $$$ you could just throw in to more power, better traction or handling. With our redesigned rear 5-link, there may be better options now for tubular or such to drop weight while increasing performance. EDIT -- almost forgot about warm weather folks being able to swap to a Braille battery for a fairly decent weight loss. No good for those of us in actual winter areas though due too poor CCAs. |

The only thing I can think of is the drive shaft I saw from the same company that makes the upgraded rear axles. I was thinking about the back seat as well but my little guy would heart broken lol.
You can also go with titanium lug nuts LOL. Those honestly might be one of the dumbest impulse purchases I've ever made. The real deal Ti lug nuts are about $200 for set. They're definitely lighter and much stronger than the fakes on ebay that have aluminum. A lot $ for how much real performance improvement...I have no idea.

Just for grins I looked up a good 18" setup from tirerack. Enkei Kojin wheels in 18x8 and 18x9.5 weighing 82lbs between all 4. Then 255/45/18 Conti DW tires for the front and same tire in the back but in a 285/40/18. All 4 tires combined weigh 102.2 according to their website. Which puts the grand total of weight between all 8 = 184.2 lbs. Stock setup is about 249 combined so that's basically a 65lb rotational mass difference which is enormous. Wonder how that would feel compared to a stock wheel/tire setup??

Seems to me there are enough airbags in the car to build a hovercraft. Remove at your own peril though.
