had the car 3 weeks and already have to replace tire. UGHH
I barely have had the car 3 weeks and I come out to it yesterday to find a huge nail stuck in the rear tire. I took my Camaro to Tropical Chevrolet and was told by the service writer that the dealership does not keep Camaro or corvette tires in stock. He would have to order it from North Carolina where there was ONE and ONE only. Now these 2016 Camaros have no inflator kit, no donut or spare tire. What are we supposed to do?
WTF???? He said they cannot plug the tire, it has to be replaced. Thank God I bought an extra service plan that replaces tires for road hazards. But it will probably be a week before the tire is in. Lucky for me no air is escaping so I was able to keep the car for now. Now I'm afraid to drive the car on roadtrips because if nobody has these tires in stock, I'm going to be stranded wherever I am at. My service guy said I can have a loaner, but who wants to go through this every time a nail or screw gets picked up? Is there a donut that I can buy for the 2ss? What happens if you plug a run flat tire? Also how long can you drive on a flat with the run flat tires? And at what speed? I've never had Run flats before. that sucks. Good that you got the road hazard thing though. Was it expensive?

Run flats. I think they'll go like 200 miles on no air or something like that. No need for a pump or repair kit......

If the nail is very close to, or in, the sidewall, the tire must be replaced. But if the nail is not in the sidewall, it can be plugged, I don't care what anyone tells you! I've been plugging tires for 25 years and have never had one so much as leak, much less come out. And that includes run-flats. I've plugged plenty of run-flats with no issue. Even tracked more than one after plugging and never an issue. I've heard people say that they worry they'll pull/scrape out if you power slide or fly out at high speed but I've never seen it happen. Even at 180 MPH, your wheels will only be rotating a little over 2000 RPM. The tire will wear out before the plug fails. That is, if you use quality plugs and it's done right.

These cars have staggered tire sizes. A spare with a different tire size will not be good for the rear differential.

The nail was right in between the tread. Not on the sidewall or anything. No air is escaping according to my pressure sensors.

You want a patch plug from the inside, Goodyear allows that.....happened to me last year, wheel shop charged me $50.

I got a nail just like this. Discount tire patched it right up, no issue at all. Free too. Do you have one near you?

Your service guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Many run flat tires can't be repaired. Goodyear can as long as the nail is in tread area at least 1/2-3/4 inch in from the sidewall. A proper RMA repair the tire is going to have a filler in the hole to keep moisture from getting in the belt package, and a patch on the inside of the tire.
