Reliability of transmission - A8 vs M6
I think I have my mind made up finally on transmission choice (M6) but as a I have been browsing these forums over the past month, I have noticed a couple of threads pop up with people having transmission issues, and it has always been the M6, which has me a little concerned.
I would have thought if anything, the more complicated system of the A8 would be more prone to problems? I know it's just anecdotal at this point, but was wondering what people's thoughts are on the reliability of the two transmissions? |

Personally I believe GM 6-speed is a really good, well built transmission as for the A8 just like any other automatic gear boxes in the market, treat it well and it will give you no problem but over time from my own experience as you put more mileage, automatic transmissions definitely start to feel sluggish. As for the long term reliability, the GM A8 has been out for how long? I am guessing 2-3 years and so far I am not aware of any major recall or reliability issues with it. At the end of the day I think it all depends on how well you take care of your car and your driving habits.

The manual has been around for a long time as a Borg Warner, now a Tremec. The TR6060 is based of the older T56. First came out in the early 90's. Been in everything from the Camaro, to Corvette, to Viper, to Challenger, etc, etc. Very robust and reliable. The A8 in various guises is too new to say, but has had overheating issues in C7's and shiting issues in the full size trucks.

What M6 issues are you referring to? I'll be getting the M6 as well.

Saw my friend to day for beer. Was not in his new CTS-V, 2016? I asked. A-8 took a dump. Under 500 miles. They are replacing the trans. Tried to get a what was wrong but he was to pissed to give a straight answer. He said he checked around and there were some issues? on the CTS-V trans. Not sure if the same as the C-6 A-8. The CTS-v has a ton of go with the supercharger and 650 HP.
