Lt1 different speedometer

I didn't notice this till now is that the Lt1 model has a different speedometer compared to the 1ss and 2ss models. The Lt1 model shows 160mph as top speed compared to 1ss & 2ss being 200mph top speed on speedometer. Why is that? Is it because of tire differences? Both have the same top speed correct in the 160mph range.

I'm just guessing it's because the dash is shared with the V6 and I4 models instead of the SS and ZL1 models.

SS top speed is no limited and is 180mph. The LT1 is limited to a lower top speed (155?) due to tires.

LT1 is an LS or LT trim with a V8 engine. The LS and 1LT 4 and 6 cylinder models without the tech pack have this cluster. The LT1 is simply a low end Camaro with a V8. Like the old Pontiac Firebird Formulas. They were Firebirds with the Trans Am engine. Or Trans Ams without the body cladding, upper level interiors, and suspension.

THIS!

The LT1 is NOT an SS... Many differences... The LT1 is really a 2LT (or so) simply with the V8 engine... All the other stuff is still reserved for the SS trims...

On the build sheet it’s built as a 1lt 1ss. I wish it wasn’t considered an ss at all. That’s an old man’s car. Just kidding, I think all the discussion between all the differences is funny.

1LT?

The funny thing is it doesn't have any SS cooling, SS wheels, SS tires (except the front), SS brakes or SS suspension... And a lot of the SS options aren't available (you can't get the 1LE package or Magnetic Ride Control on an LT1...) The LT1 is no SS... It is simply a V8 powered 1LT...

You're supposed to be able to swap the SS cluster into the V6 body.

When I got my Camaro registered (since my 60 day temp tag is expired soon) my vin decoded at the DMV as a 1SS when its an LT1. Thought that was weird and I wonder how long that will last for.

Wait what?? Huh?

The 1LT package is COMPLETELY different from the 1SS package. Brakes, suspension, 3 radiators for track cooling, tires, wheels, rear end, gauge cluster..... what is GM's thought process here?

When they decided to come out with the "LT1" as a V8 "1LT" I knew there'd be nomenclature confusion all over the place but this is unnecessarily adding to it!

They should have just left it as the base designation, and with the 1LT trim. The original 1967-69 Camaros could be had with a 305 V8 as a "base" without the SS or RS designation. There was no designation, there doesn't need to be one now.

My head hurts.

So lt1 are getting charged SS insurance money..
Here in California, with AAA, trim level makes a huge difference.
