Crankshaft damage

I've got a weird one. Long story short I took my car to a shop because it still wasn't making the power it should. They tore into it and said the crank snout was damaged because the ATI damper keyway wasn't aligned properly. Can this even happen? I looked at the super damper installation and didn't see anything relating to that. I'm kinda pissed the crank is "trashed". I attached the two photos they sent me. Does this look damaged enough to yield a full replacement?

The dampners are press fit. If you don't use a keyway or pin, the slot needs to be siliconed off on the crank. Otherwise, you can use their pin kit. Here are the install instructions from ATI. It talks about the keyway/pin. Hope it helps.

Edit: I see you're supercharged. Did you keyway or pin it to the crank? If not, the dampner may have spun on the crank snout. The instructions from ATI say it must be pinned in those circumstances. So maybe it wasn't pinned, spun, and ruin the crank.

have you reached out to ATI? Seems fishy. I don’t remember clocking my ATI pulley because of the key way. I know I used too much silicone under the washer the first time because it almost fell off. After that I took it off, cleaned up the crank (it scuffed the edge up slightly) and put it back on about 2 or 3 years ago and it hasn’t moved since

The shop that previously installed it had overtorqued the damper bolts and when I found it, it was running on one bolt. Not sure if that did it. Is the crank really trashed though?

Also, would it cause a loss of power? The car is only making 650 rn

If it's spinning on the crank then yes you won't be able to make the same amount of boost superchargers take a lot of power to spin up.

If i were you i might purchase a pin kit and try to pin it and see if it will stay put. It essentially drills a half circle in the crank and pulley then a pin is inserted to keep it from spinning mine pinned in two spots. It has to press on enough that it runs true and doesn't wobble though depends how wornout things are. You could even weld but if you ever have to take it off you're torching it off and it's not getting reused lol.

I just put a new super damper on mine and I pinned it horizontal. And double pinned it while I was there. You will have to get a set of calipers and check O.D. of the crank snout. If its still within tolerance you will need a need ATI hub.
