LS9 Cam in a NA LS3
I see a few threads on this topic but don't see that anyone has come to a conclusion.
I'm considering swapping an LS9 cam into my LS3 in anticipation of adding an E-Force Supercharger next year. How will the car run pre blower once I drop in the LS9 cam? It would be nice to get a few more hp between now and when I add the blower. Any help in this area is greatly appreciated. |

I have the e force installed and am looking at the cam install now along with torque convertor and everyone tells me that there is more to be offered by going with a custom grind rather than this ls9 cam. Yes this cam is cheap but vie been told you may be leaving 30+ hp on the table by trying to save a couple hundred bucks on the cam itself because the install price will be the same. Good luck

I think the average pick up is around 20 to 30 rwhp... thats with a tune too. You may wanna search or look in the V8 engine mods thread for better answers.

Thanks for the info...I know MTI and Comp have blower cams too. Just wasn't sure if the car will run right since I don't yet have the E-Force?

The car will run fine and the cam will give you around 20hp N/A. I'm sure it will be worth more with a blower. Great street manners and idle. N/A you can use your stock pushrods and valvetrain. You might want to upgrade the springs for F/I. That being said, to install it with stock springs should MUCH cheaper due to less work for the install. I think you can order the cam from GM parts direct for $98.

It'll run fine, I ran my G8 GXP LS3 without a blower with the cam and it was great actually.

Sounds good! My next issue is unfortunately I don't have the know how to do the install myself so I'm going to pay to have it done. I was quoted $1500 by a local shop to install a Dynatech header and the cam. In our area we don't have many speed shops to compete on price so not many options. Is it just me or does this seem a bit high? Thanks for the info!

What does $1500 include? Cam? Headers? pushrods? springs? clips?

That would be about right on a LS3 for a cam pkg and that is them supplying all parts.

No...that is just for labor on the header and cam swap. Parts would be on me.

If you have to pay to do the work spend the extra money and buy a real cam.you will be alot happier in the long run.

Any suggestions? What cam would you recommend? Something that will work well with the Blower to come and work well until that time.

So do any of you think $1500 labor is too much?

Does that include a dyno tune? For that type of install price you should get a bigger cam with pushrods and springs. You will definitely need a tune with a bigger cam. The Livernois stage 1c cam would work well with a blower, have great drivability, and make some nice power N/A. If that price is without a tune I'd RUN away from that deal.
