2016 Camaro SS Heater Problem

This morning on my way to work I had my heater going full blast & it was working good until I slowed down and it started blowing cold air. I remote started it before I got in as well and noticed the heater was not warming the car up like it should even tho it was set on High full blast. What can cause that to happen, I hate getting in the car at 5:30 am & it’s freezing inside. Thanks.

Have you checked your coolant(antifreeze)levels under the hood? In my experience sometimes when the coolant level is low the heater doesn’t work that well until you add some to bring it back up to the recommended levels. Hope this helps!

What is your coolant temp gauge showing? It should move to the 200 degree mark (approximately) and stay there. If it drifts up or down while you are driving you may have a sticky thermostat.

Quick question do any of you guys know what the little dex-cool reservoir is right behind the big coolant reservoir? I know it’s got a tiny hole up top & I don’t think I’ve ever put anything in there, am I supposed to pour coolant in that little bottle too?

Yes you are supposed to put coolant in there too! Your owners manual shows what the level should be, but yes it has coolant in it too! I would say fill it up to half mark and the large reservoir should be full.

That was exactly the way my 4th gen Z28 acted when the water pump started to fail. Best of luck getting it sorted out - hopefully an easy fix!

If the coolant level is ok then I’ll put money on it the heater core needs to be flushed. Seen this many times on many different cars and machines.
