CA test pipes, good idea?
Hi all, i was looking at having some loud fun and putting test pipes on me car. I know to get it to run right a tune would be advisable, but what if i don’t? I don’t care about the engine light. Just want a quick way to make it vary loud. Thoughts?

The O2 sensor will see more air than normal, and will tell your PCM to dump more fuel. Eventually your plugs are going to foul up and the car will run even worse. The "gassy smell" it's also very obvious; no cats. You will have terrible gas mileage because you will being dumping extra fuel during WOT. My advice get a tune or don’t do it.

just to hear the noise it is ok but for driving, nop. The engine will run probably in emergency mode.

cat-back or axle back exhaust will make it louder - some more than others. Quick and easy. Not cheap per-se.

no cats will not make your car run rich. during normal driving your ECM will still run the same a/f mixture. any extra air flow you get into the engine will get pick up by the mass air sensor during WOT.

CA test pipes won't cause a fueling issue. What will happen is you will get a emission p0430 code for catalyst efficiency since that is what the rear o2 sensor monitors and the cats will no longer be there. Some have mentioned on 2017+ those emission codes can cause limp mode. I am not sure, but I can tell you on my 2016 all I got was check engine light when I did that mod without tuning. I was able to use nofoulers and kept the light off.
The thing I did notice was a loss of low end throttle response and torque. The ECU didn't seem to like it. So I went ahead and tuned it then it was a noticable difference across the entire rpm range. So IMHO if you don't want to tune then the only mods I would do to the car are Prays ported stock intake manifold/throttle body and a Rotofab dry.

He's in CA people. You can't dick with intake and CAI unless he wants to run illegal.
He has a 2SS but does he have NPP? He didn't say. I have a 1SS and I went with Magnaflow axle-back competition series. I love the tone but the Race Series would be louder. No bueno in my neighborhood! https://www.magnaflow.com/collection...xhaust-systems |

My car is a 2ss with NPP but I already have cutouts that I run open 100% of the time so no muffler basically meaning the npp is useless. The cutouts made it sound a lot deeper and not muffled at idle. Just after a few months of having that i now want it even louder. After all the research test pipes look to be a good inexpensive option to add 10hp and better if you add intake and a tune. But if you want to keep your warranty... you can’t do crap to these cars
