Will a 160 thermostat keep me in open loop/

I have a E-force supercharger and I want to tackle the overall heat buildup. Nothings really wrong with the setup, just looking to improve heat removal. IATs do run a little high after a pull, but not too bad, 185.

My question is can I use a 160 degree thermostat without staying in open/ warm-up mode? How about a 170 or a 180 degree thermostat? Don't want to fool with the tune right now, but may later.

A 160 will not do you any good without a change in tune. I would had figured that the Eforce and tune was programed and equipped with a 160*? Are you sure it isnt a lower temp T-stat, already?

I'd be careful about changing the thermostat if it is a daily driver. As stated you will need to tune to properly take advantage of it. The other issue is that if it is a street car you will not get the oil temps high enough to burn off moisture. Everything was designed around a certain operating point. In the cold weather this will matter much more.

A thermostat will do nothing to remove heat from the engine at operating temperature and under high load. It simply allows the hot engine coolant to mix with the cooler coolant sooner than oem. Once its open, its open....

i run the 170 stat without any issue, keeps the car nice and cooler in arizona 118* heat. even with the 160 stat it is already in the close loop when i had it.

Thanks all for your input.

My real goal is to increase heat rejection at the SC to head interface. Any small delta T to reduce heat transfer should help reduce IATs a little bit. I've talked to several shops concerning reducing IATs on a PD setup and they all recommend a lower temp t-stat. Did some measurements last week and found that the heads run about 20- 30* hotter than the SC casing.

We do run ambient temps in the 90-100's in the summer. Gonna give it a try.
