Ok guys and gals,

I know this has been covered over and over again on this site. I did a search for Gas Prices here and got the phone book back for results.

I need a place to RANT on how F'n frustrated I am. So I thought a new thread would give anyone else a place to lob grenades if they wanted to.

We own two cars a Mazda 3 that I drive and a 05 Z71 CrewCab that my wife drives. She drives it cus she puts far less miles on it. I drove the truck for the last week and a half and just about vomited when I put $85 dollars in gas in the damn thing. $3.09 a friggin gallon for 87 octane. I will spend the rest of the week looking for another car. I am so P!$$ed I can hardly stand it. I'm sorry but 16 mpg just isn't affordable. I LOVE my truck and waited for Chevy to finally get a 1/2 crewcab on the market. But I just can't see my self dropping that much money for gas. I'm actually considering a small Toyota crewcab or a Chevy Colorado crew. (I've done zero research so I don't know if mpg is that much better) I'd really like to continue to own a truck but I am slowly leaning towards getting another car like a Mazda 6 or something similar.

The only way I will be able to own the Camaro5 is if it is our third car and everything else is paid off. Ethanol please hurry!!!!!

Your gas still only costs about a third to a half what our costs, so sorry but you're notting getting sympathy from Sweden.

OUCH! How do you guys deal with driving and getting to and from where you need to go??? Driving is my only way to get to school and to work... If there was another resource, trust me, I would have used it! lol

Sorry no Sympathy here, My V8 Dodge ram (not hemi) gets roughly 16-18MPG. Guess what, you bought the truck, nobody forced you to buy a gas guzzling beast. Thats the price you pay, and its at the pump.

And yes 16mpg is affordable, if you step back and realize thats where your luxury money is going. I know thats where mine is going, and I drive the truck I love and for that privledge i pay more at the pump.

PS I spend about $400 a month in gas (22mile one way commute).

Damn, 16-18? I've got the "new" 4.7 in my Dakota that was suppose to get better MPG's, best I can get for local driving is 13-15MPG, Highway I get 21. Gas around here dropped to a mere $3.25.

I'm a realist. 3.25 a gallon around here is half of what the Europeans are paying. Granted, they're cars are generally more fuel-efficient than ours (but they cost more, and are smaller - correct me if I'm wrong).

Just bought a Cobalt, and 40miles a day for ~20 days a month = 800 miles....
which translates roughly into 100 bucks a month on gas... I got it good.

But, if you're truck is hurting you that bad - go for a Colorado...or a smaller SUV. The equinox is supposed to have quite a bit of room in there with the seats gone......

I guess it boils down to, Do you actually USE the truck? For towing, hauling, etc. If you do...then my advise is deal with it. If not - maybe trading it in for a Malibu () wouldn't be a bad idea.

But I complain about gas prices as much as I used to ever since I figured out what the Europeans are paying....damn.

If you're using the truck's capacities to an extent that no alternative could fill your needs (like massive shopping trips at home depot, towing, etc.) then you're just paying for the utility that you're taking advantage of. Everything has its price. If you're not using those capacities, then you are just flushing money down the drain for no good reason. Evaluate your needs. If you need (and I mean really need, not just want) the truck, it is just something you'll have to deal with. If you don't need it, then be smart, get something more efficient.

Gas in Anaheim is wonderfully cheap for Southern California (cheap for anywhere in the world but the American Mid-West for that matter) at 2.99/gallon. Driving my Cobalt 12 times a month for the 60 mile round trip commute (plus any other trips) at 26 mpg (lots of REALLY steep hills on my commute) equals 90 bucks a month or so. Yay.

My commute: 26.7 miles one way. 5 days a week
My car: 2000 saturn SL2

5 x 53 = 285 miles.
1 tank of gas = ~390 miles (11 gallons)
avg mpg = 35.4

avg cost per month: $118.47 @ 3.59/gallon for 87 octane.

consider the fact that a cup of Starbucks is upwards of $7 and suddenly a whole gallons worth of gas seems reasonable.

We are at ~$1.00/L so thats ~$3.75/gal or so, so there isn't much sympathy from me either when you complain about $0.70/L. Other things to do, besides trading in the truck if you do in fact need it, is to do some maintance items like properly inflating the tires. Also, driving in a more efficeint manner will help too. The most efficient way to drive is stay at the speed limit, don't stomp on the gas when accelerating, and make minimal use of the brakes. Basically, don't rush. There are a bunch of other tips out there too.

Money is worth a bit more over here really. That and I drive economically in a car with pretty good MPG ratio. And I take the bus if I'm going to say Stockholm.

I would quote and respond to everyone but I would have to quote the entire thread since everyone feels the same way.

So let me make some clarifications.

First I wanted to see if anyone here was as outraged as I am. It seems that's a "no". I am very well aware that I bought my truck and I accept the responsibility for my actions and in no way am looking for someone else to bail me out of my problem. Other than for our government to do what it can to keep gas prices down, develop better alternatives to foreign oil, etc. But I don't rely on that as my day to day answer. So don't think I am looking for sympathy cus I'm not. But I do appreciate every one's honesty. For those of you overseas. that's just brutal.

The question I have to ask is: What price will gas have to get to before you would change vehicles, if at all?

I do use my truck as a truck regularly. But I am completely willing to change my lifestyle to accommodate the cost of operating my vehicle. Depending on who drives it we spend 300 - 400 a month in gas on it. Both of us drive about 50 miles round trip to work. I am very seriously looking for another vehicle. But I'm only a year or so from paying the truck off. So We'll have to weigh that into the equation. We sold a lifted jeep to get the Mazda because the jeep got 11mpg. So I am comfortable with changing to accommodate our budget.

I watch every penny we save as much money as we can and I concede that I am just frustrated that gas prices are out of my control. As it is right now if we had two Mazdas I could put at least another $150 in a college fund or retirement fund a month.

My apologies for sounding like a wank. And I was wanking. But I do feel that we are just taking this on the chin without putting up much of a fight to our local, state and federal gov. For what it's worth.
