Quick oil and filter check

Sorry for what I'm sure is a duplicate post but the search was all over the place. I know we have the sane drive train as a standard SS, but want to see what you guys are using. I plan to use Mobil 1 5W 30 and not sure about the filter. Thinking about Mobil 1 Platinum, Wix, or AC Delco filters.

Thoughts?

I always use AC Delco filters. I normally go up to the better UPR filters

I am doing what the manual tells me to do. AC delco filter and Valvoline 5w40 dexos 2 for tracking.

Forgot to mention that I don't track my car. 5w 40 might still be good since I only drive the car in warm weather seasons.

I also use the AC Delco filter with dexos2 5W-40, but I track mine. Since you don't track yours, you won't have any problem with an approved 5W-30 since the 5W-40 is really only needed for extended periods of high engine load and RPM where you're generating a lot of heat. Shouldn't see those conditions on the street unless you spend a lot of time at WOT

Get a dexos 2 rated 5 or 0w40.

GM just announced they are going to Mobil1 5w40 ESP for all vettes so obviously 5w30 is not enough.

Thanks for the recommendations. Nothing on the 5w 40 esp for Camaros yet? Wonder Why? ESP is expensive and hard to find isn't It? My RAM ecodiesel used 5w 30 ESP until they changed to Rotella 5w 40 due to main bearing failures. That's a diesel though.

They will probably go that route for Camaros too, I haven't been able to find 5w40 esp for sale anywhere online. I am not sure its available anywhere yet, the documentation I have says it wont be available through my normal oil program channels until July 1st.

I've been running the Wix XP filter and performance supplement recommended Valvoline Synpower MST 5w40 for track days. Blackstone reports all have come back perfect thus far.

I run this for track days as well. Daily driving - Mobil 1 5W-30 with the Dexos 1 cert.

Just curious why you don't use the Mobil 1 with Dexos 2? Can you still get the Dexos 1?

You should be able to run the new Corvette spec'd oil, 0w40 Dexos 2 Mobil 1, but the Corvette spec'd one appears to be GM dealers only at the moment. One of my emails about it did have Camaro listed along with Corvette, so I'm thinking the LT1 and possibly LT4 will be going to 0w40 in the future. If that is the case, then the oil will be backwards compatible, and is daily driving and track use compatible. No need to switch oil viscosity for track events.

Summers get hot here, so 5W 40 seems like a good plan for me if I can find it.

Interesting how GM uses Mobil 1 as the factory fill for Corvettes with the LT1 but not the Camaro with the LT1...
