Belt shredded, coolant completely leaked out, towed it home

Guys need your opinions please

Dealership replaced "driveshaft linkage" under warranty. A week later (second time driving car since getting it back) I get message "Battery charge system needs service" shortly after car starts to run hot and i get message about temperature being too high i need to turn ac off, etc etc

I pull over and coolant resevoir is completely empty and the drive? belt is shredded
I call a tow.

Do they have to move any pullies, etc to get to driveshaft ?

My guess is dealership screwed up and didn't tighten a bolt down. The bolt I'm touching connected to the pulley here was completely loose

You definitely do NOT need to touch the serpentine belt in order to fix or change the driveshaft...

First of all how could this happen ?

(I assume broken end is still in the bolt hole)

If you don't know where the driveshaft is in relation to the fan belt, you're probably going to need someone to help you. If it broke off flush, you'll need to drill out the interior of the bolt and use an easy out to get the rest out...

The problem is there's no space to drill out the broken bolt.
I guess i need to know if there's any way the supercharger could be blamed for this.
Dealership has honored the warranty entire time ive had the Maggie on there

With the tensioner completely removed there might be a small length of the broken bolt sticking out that you can grab with some pliers and remove it. However if it did snap off flush and there's nothing to grab hold of. The front Fascia and everything behind it like the heat exchanger, Radiator, fans, etc may need to come out so you have a clear shot to drill into the center of that broken bolt.

Yes the SC mods to the car and work done to install the mods could most certainly contribute to a tensioner bolt failing, with the consequential belt shredding and damage to the coolant lines, overheat, etc.

If the failed bolt is proud of the surface, you can weld to it. If not, then you'll probably need to use an EZ Out. Even though you say your dealer is mod friendly, I would not take this to a Chevy dealer to repair. Best case you have someone inexperienced with these kinds of mods trying to fix it. Worst case you lose the drivetrain warranty. I'd take it back to the shop that did the mods in the first place (Lamar Walden?) and ask them to fix it. I'm sure they've had to deal with a broken bolt or two before

It appears the SC belt is still in tacked as it runs on its own tensioner so there is no way the SC could have caused that GM tensioner bolt to fail as they have no relation to each other in the front drive assembly. The tensioner for the SC is on the drivers side and when installing the SC the GM tensioner is not involved in the installation whatsoever. Has anyone been working in that area for any reason such as replacing the alternator belt? Have you changed that cam or anything else where that tensioner would have been removed? There is a twist in that bolt which appears to me it been over torqued at some point.

I know there is no space for a drill. You have to make a space, LOL.
Maybe the radiator and an angle drill. But, even then, it isn't going to be an easy job.

It's not the superchargers fault. As laylo said, if someone took the front end of that engine off, yes. More than likely, the bolt worked its way loose and the flopping cracked it. The "twist" is the final snapping of the bolt. (Think of sawing a bolt and then bending it to break the last little bit).

It looks like it is/was a warranty issue.

As dysan said, there *might* be enough sticking out to get some channel locks on. Kinda doubting it though because the failure is in the threaded area. Did you slip the tensioner off to see what the boss looked like?

OP, the last thing in the world I would do in your shoes is bash a dealer who would warranty a driveline component on a supercharged car. I see you're in Georgia, if you don't mind my asking, who is your dealer?
As for the bolt, I can't tell from the pics, but it looks like a really long bolt that may double as an alternator mount bolt. If this is the case, removing the alternator may give you enough room to remove the bolt. It shouldn't be tight in the hole, if it's proud of the surface at all you should be able to screw it out without issue. If not, you'll have to go the easy out route.

Damn man, take some responsibility for you actions. No one is to blame other then yourself. You modded the car, shit will break, stop trying to blame someone else for it. You are even lucky any dealership would warranty anything in the driveline with a aftermarket supercharger installed.

Since its a clean break you MIGHT be able to "twizzle" the threads out with a small screw driver, pick,or scribe. A little light penetrating oil helps too.

Otherwise get real familiar with EZ outs.

Wow thanks for the feedback guys.

Got a newish car because it came with a warranty.

Got the Heartbeat because it also came with a warranty. A drivetrain warranty.

If the tensioner was not touched during supercharger install then original shop has no accountability. (That and two years have passed)

Dealership is only one to have worked on this car other than speedshop that did heartbeat install
