Small update. I bought LT1 heads from a member here and was waiting for black friday sales to order cam, lifters, gaskets, valves, oil pump...etc but a buddy of mine offered to sell me a Vengeance Racing lt4 VR1100 long block for less than half of what he paid last month for it from Rob Morse. From what I read, Rob and Vengeance Racing had the first 1000 wheel 6th gen with this motor. He parted his whole car out for a full race car build. Soooo I snagged it.
So now I have two LT4 motors. One a VR long block with a bunch of nice parts in it with stock lower end and the CSP Eric fresh rebuilt LT4 shortblock with lt1 heads. Part of me says leave the VR lt4 alone and install it as is. Other part of me says take the good parts from both engines and combine them. Use the fresh lt4 shortblock ( new main and rod bearings, new rings, arp main studs ) with the VR lt4 heads and valvetrain. The cam in the VR is a .651/.656 229 237 116 with 1* over lap. This has a lot more lift than the cam motion I was looking at .630/.621 227 233 115 with 0* over lap. What do you guys think? Run it or buy the cam motion? Either way, I'm sending the LT4 heads to katech to have the LT1 intake manifold holes machined into them.

VR LT4 heads are on their way to Katech for cleaning and machining. I also ordered their "truck" oil pump for higher oil pressure. It's on back order but hoping to get it before 2021.
The VR1100 engine looks good. The pistons show zero detonation which is pretty impressive for making over 1k wheel. I'm pretty certain I am going to reuse this VR cam.

Good choice...I definitely suggest reworked heads with new seats, guides, and valves based on reports I have seen from guys like Brett and Ryan. Seems to be a fair amount of valve issues out there with boost on this platform...and even some NA with larger cams spinning higher rpm.

Ported stock castings totally reworked by Pray Performance. Either way you go it's not going to be cheap. I suspect 4500.00+ even for stock castings completely revamped. The VR LT4 heads that Choda purchased should be solid too. The main thing is to have good valve seats, guides, and valves.

The thing I'm finding with LT heads are that when you get into working the factory castings with port, valves, guides, springs... it costs the same as an aftermarket head like CID or PRC. These VR1100 LT4 heads price at 4500 bucks. You could get an aftermarket head for a couple bucks more.
