I plan to do 325s when I have to replace mine. 305s up front, too. Maybe I'll lose a little turn-in response, but I probably couldn't tell, and I'd prefer a little more curb protection and just like the look better. I like a little poke.

To each their own of course, I don't like poke at all. Even though the 1LE has it from the factory, it always gives me the impression of someone that put wheels and tires on a vehicle that weren't properly sized. Guess I've seen too many Honda Civic's running around slammed too the ground with their wheels and tires hanging 3-4" outside the fenders.

Goodyear doesn't make the factory Eagle F1 Supercar 3 in 315/30/20 or 325/30/20, and no one wants to put 315/35/20 on their ZL1 due to the tall sidewall. Also, I looked at the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S data, and the 315/30/20 and 305/30/20 are listed as the exact same width (12" wide), so there's no width to be gained from a 315 and the 315 has a slightly taller sidewall. I thought maybe it was a typo, but all the 315 tires said 12" on the Michelin website, matching the 305s. The Shelby GT500 has Michelin 305 in
the front and 315 in the rear - they have the same section width but a different tread compound, so this prevents people from rotating the tires. Sneaky.

Interestingly, the 305/30/20 Eagle F1 3 tires are listed as 12.3" wide (vs. 12.0" for the Michelin PS4S in the same size). Also, the 285/30/20 are 11" (PS4S) and 11.4" (GY SC3), making the Goodyear nearly 1/2" wider in the same size spec. I have noticed before that the Michelin PS4S tires appear narrower than the Goodyears, and that proves it. They are actually narrower tires.

There's other manufacturers that may make 315/30 that are actually wider than the 305/30, but I didn't check them.

I was actually thinking about going with the Michelin PS4S in a 315 for the extra sidewall. It's not that much taller than the stock 305 and it should soften the ride just a little. Also thinking about using a 295 in the front for the same reason. I'm not stuck in using the OEM Goodyears. They do great on dry pavement, probably a little too sticky, constantly throwing up gravel. They perform just adequate in the rain but they really don't last long at all is the biggest reason to make the swap to Michelin.

I personally hate tires that poke. It looks ... cheezy. The 4S in 305/325 are the best you can do as far as what I've experienced and the numbers I've seen. Great above 40F in wet and dry, road and road course, not so much at the drags though.

Just remember that the 315 PS4S are still narrower than the factory 305 Goodyears (12" vs 12.3"). Also, the PS4S are quite a bit more expensive than the SC3, so keep that in mind when looking at overall cost to own.

I agree - I think the stance of the factory ZL1 looks great. I also don't like when people put spacers or aggressive offsets and the wheels/tires stick out far at the bottom due to the shape of the side of the cars, esp. Mustangs and Challengers, which have more inward curve than the Camaro. On a Mustang, if a tire pokes a little bit at the top, it sticks out the side of the lower body by several inches which isn't ideal. Look at supercars, none of them poke because it's not aerodynamic.

Also, I assume have experience with the PS4S since you're saying they're great, but my experience is they are not good below 50F. Sure, they are better at 50F than 40F, but still not good until above 50F or until they have been driven at decent speeds for a few miles.

Obviously the colder the day the more drivability suffers, but I've driven the 4S on two GTR and this car on many sunny Denver afternoon drives at 40F+ w/o issues.

That setup allows for better handling. Less sidewall squirm.

If you like driving in a straight line, sure, get the widest tires you can fit. Otherwise, the tradeoff is handling feel and stability in the corners.
