I don't think gas mileage is really going to be one of the key decision factors we are talking about a factory built track car here. I'm sure the LS7 is gone but like the article infers is it an LT7? Either way 5.0 liter - 7.0 liter whatever they decide I'm sure it will be fully capable of achieving the goal.

As for CAFE, remember it's Corporate Average Fuel Economy, not Individual Model Fuel Economy. Cars that have a low production volume like the Z/28 have a very minimal impact. A thousand cars per year is nothing in comparison to the ~3 million GM sells in the US each year.

I'm no engine sound expert. But there is clearly a difference in the exhaust notes of the two cars. The ZL1 seems a little higher pitch and motorboat like. While the Z28 is throatier. Could it just be a free-er flowing exhaust?

Not sure what makes Motor Trend's case any different than what's been discussed over and over here....(Car and Driver make a case that it will be and LT4 http://www.caranddriver.com/news/201...py-photos-news )
....One common denominator, though...."Just change this a little, modify that, bump this up a little, and there you go....".....All wishful thinking that has been pretty well explained as impractical for a limited production engine....They tried to build a new high hp normal aspirated engine for the Vette and possibly for the Z/28....IT COULDN'T BE DONE for what was required in a production, legal engine... I believe like everyone else, they can build any variant, any combo, any hp V8...but if it can't jump through all the hoops necessary for production, we won't see it...The LS7 was a one-time opportunity to extend it's use with the 5thGen Z/28....That window has closed. Reality check: It will be an LT4.... Last edited by 90503; 05-14-2016 at 12:31 PM. |

While i understand the points of the argument, it doesn't make business sense. If it has an LT4, aside from the aero package what will differentiate it from the ZL1? Why not just have an aero package for the ZL1 (sort of like the whole z07/z06).

I think if GM says a new NA engine "can't be done" there's an implicit qualifier where they're restrained by a given development budget, not that it's technologically impossible. |

Nope not me I am just on this forum and the GM trucks forum. The LS7 is dead not coming back period. I see a LT7 or something very secret we don't know about. I would be very suprised to see the LT4 in this Z28.

If they wanted to create some hype and real speculation, the use of the ZL-1/LT4 hood sure didn't help.
A new mystery engine with the LT4 hood at the Ring? If they are running something other than an LT4, I would think part of the Z/28 aero package would be a unique hood.... |

Not necessarily. The 5th gen Z/28 use a similar hood to the SS.
The ZL1 hood may just be very efficient at reducing lift and extracting heat, so a new design isn't needed.

The former would require breakthroughs in production pushrod engine technology. The latter would merely be applying current technology to an engine concept thats over a decade old.

Quote below from the FOX new interview when Al was asked if they would do anything beyond the ZL1. Recall that Reuss aleady said they are looking to the past for insperation for the next Z/28. Start at time mark 4:15

My personal thought:
If Z/28 comes out with a N/A 7 Liter engine V.S. ZL1 with Lt4, I'd buy the Z/28. Nothing beats a big N/A V8 engine, and I've had both styles S/C and TT. |

I feel like I'm the only one who clearly heard a blower whine at 0:35 in the video
