Brake pads?

Anyone seen performance brake pads for Gen6 yet?
I don't really need Hawk DTC level, but HP+ level pads or even EBC Blue/Yellowstuff level pads would be fine. (something that's not going to melt away after a few hot laps, and stop little better)

If any of you found some decent pads, please share the info. Thanks!

Maybe give Carbotech a call. What they don't have in stock they can usually make up for you (and I'd be really surprised if they haven't already started up a 6th gen line given this car's early reviews). I'm thinking XP8's or XP10's here, given that mention of "after a few hot laps". They will dust some, considerably more than HPS but a little less than HP+, and at least the dust dry-wipes off pretty easily. Of greater interest is that they won't eat rotors like HP+ does and the initial 'bite' is way better than HPS. They even work reasonably well when cold, at least as far down as the 20°-ish, maybe teens F range that I can vouch for.

Great idea. I used Carbotech a few years ago and liked it. I think it was XP10 and I paid little more than HP+ but worked pretty good on tracks.
I'll give Carbotech a call and let you guys know what I find out. Thanks.

I sent emails to Carbotech, Hawk, and EBC today.
If I get anything back, I'll share with you guys.

In the mean time, if any of you know some decent pads, please do share.

I had the HP+ pads on the GTO and never freaking again. Never. The dust they put out is just crazy compared to other pads of the same make. I never got why they dusted so bad. Then, the noise.

Yes, they stopped pretty damn good but I'd steer clear of them if you are DDing the Camaro.

I don't keep the HP+ (or any other performance pads like Carbotech XP10s, PFC pads or Hawk DTCs) on the car for daily driving, so I don't get noise/dust and also save the more pricey pads for track use only. (EBC Yellowstuffs,,, I just leave them on.)
I just put them on the night before I go to track, and take it out after a track day.

I hear you on the brake dust. That dust is not only messy, but actually bad for your wheels. I just rinse the wheels after track day.
I actually had HP+ on the car one time. It lasted about 3,000 street-miles.

Ahhh!! Smart about changing them out but I guess you are actually doing track days and not AutoX.

The one thing about HP+ that I really dislike is their appetite for iron - they eat rotors in daily driving like a kid with unsupervised access to the cookie jar. By comparison, the noise and the dust are minor nuisances.

Carbotech.

That's all you really need to know, but I'll say more.

I had a 2000 Trans Am that I autoxed, and then road raced. I tried several compounds from Hawk, EBC, Cobalt and Carbotech. The CTs were the best by far. I'm talking performance here.

My Trans Am would outbrake, lap-after-lap, almost any car on the track - Viper Comp Coupes, Ferrari F430s, Porsche Turbos/GT3s, Vettes, etc. The only car I ever met that could outbrake me was a Porsche GT3 Cup car. There was even another guy with a 4th gen Camaro (same car, same suspension, same weight) but he had big 6-piston Wilwood brakes, compared to my stock C5 Vette brakes. And I would make up 5-6 car-lengths in braking zones.

I won the 08-09 state championship with XP12s front and XP8s rear.

I've been running the XP20s on my G8 as a daily driver. The dust is insane, but I just spray some wheel cleaner and wash with a hose every 3rd or 4th day. Keeps them clean.

But, performance on the G8? Ohmygod! When bone cold, they are as good as any premium over-the-counter brand (in other words, good stopping, low initial bite, quite comfy). But, get even a little heat in them, and they are phenomenal. They will not fade no matter how much 140-40mph braking you do. They deliver the same performance. And, they will not put uneven deposits on your rotors (look up "warped rotor" to see what I mean). Yes, they chew through rotors (set per year, driving 16k miles/year). But, it's a small price to pay.

I used to like Carbotech until Matt left. There was then a sour taste in my mouth.

I sent emails to Carbotech, Hawk, and EBC but so far, I got only response from Hawk.
"We are in the process of trying to get these together. I do not have an ETA right now but it is being worked on."

That's all I got. My first track event is in 2 week. I guess I'm going out there with stock brakes.
The track I'm going on 4/16 will eat up brakes fast - repeat of straight/brake/turn 90 degree.
I'm gonna run run flat, so I won't out brake anyone anyway...
I just hope I'll have enough brake left to come home by the end of the day.

I'm also in a similar boat and the same response from Hawk about DTCs.

No Resp from Carbo, but I emailed Porterfield over EBC.

You going to at least run SRF or RBF600 or something in your lines?
