Does the Filter make it sound any better?

They do.

I have not been able to re-validate my test results on the Mishimoto and CAI intakes. So at this time, only the K&N setup has shown an increase in power from the testing I have done.

How? On the highway at relatively light load the throttle valve immediately downstream is mostly closed. How could a less restrictive filter help light load fuel economy unless the MAF is skewed?

Thanks as always, Sledgehammer! You spend WAY more time on testing than I could even if I retired.

Interesting. There was a debate on a related topic in the 5th gen forums. Someone recorded a really good LS3 M6 ET stock but with a drop in filter. The argument was, is he still stock? Here with the CA6 SS the answer would be no! Still really outstanding M6 driving though either way.

I have a Rotofab incoming. Looking forward to further testing......

If a car isn't on the stock list due to a filter change, that is beyond dumb. So if someone changes the air filter to a Puralator that's a "mod" too? Or if they are running a different oil filter? A drop in filter, K&N or not, in an otherwise stock car is well, still stock...

Nice work, always appreciate your time and effort into the videos and helping the community.

Just to play devil's advocate, my car went from 401 RWHP on the first pull to a max of 410. While I won't say "the filter is worth nothing," I would say the gains are well within a dyno's margin of error. Again, just playing devil's advocate.

Keep it up!

That is some crazy margin of error. In most of my runs it will always be 2-3hp and trq. Anything above that is consistent back to back is a gain in my book.

Overall it all comes down to testing. I like to test my car after it has been warmed up and let sit for a few hours to cool, that gives a better real world result, over just strapping the car on the dyno and busting out runs.

But it all comes down to the margin of error and overall averages of the runs.My averages align with the results posts. but the bigger story is the grph, you can clearly see the gain through the entire RPM band.

If you had an exhaust obstruction like a second additional cat and you replaced it with a straight pipe, is that still stock?

Exactly the same potentially with an air filter. What if they ran without one? The obstruction of intake air flow can be significant. A minor mod. But then so is porting a throttle body. Nobody would question that mod
