SCAMMER ALERT - "CivilSS"
Just had user "CivilSS" try to scam me out of $200 over on Camaro 5...Pretty sure he is on here lurking also with different user names.
I created a thread looking for a set of Kooks Off-Road connection pipes: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=605978 He pm'd me telling me he had a set for sale and asked me to text him at 830-507-3857. I asked him for a picture of the pipes. He then proceeded to send me the exact same picture in this thread from 2017: https://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=505652 A simple google search and I found the picture and thread. I was already on high alert because he's a new member with only 1 post. I reported him. Hopefully he hasn't burnt anyone else. He's also been busy on other forums. This is how the scam works; they want you to communicate outside of the board, usually by email, IM or phone. Then they want you pay in some insecure manner (Paypal Friends and Family, Zelle, Venmo, Gift Cards ....). You never get your thing and you have no way to get your money back. You report them, but they just make a new account and keep scamming people. They use a lot of form letters with your item name haphazardly pasted in. That's usually the first tip-off.
Guys, please, buy from trusted members who actually have a post count of legitimate dialog, always use a secure payment method with buyer protection and package tracking. If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. This particular guy has been called out for scamming on a BMW forum as well.
