Street testing a Mustang GT PP1
I love my 6th gen Camaro SS 6MT, but recently I drove a Mustang GT with the PP1 6MT and the car was a joy to drive it hard. Strong push to the seat while accelerating, sweet exhaust sound and great handling with the PP1, also has great seating position and nice dash. I was surprised.

I recently test drove a gt pp2 and my cousins 2019 gt pp1 m6(this one extensively) and was surprised by how smooth and easy the shifter is. Obviously it's a less robust lighter duty trans but that comes with the advantage of it being very light and easy to the through the gears.
Also the power delivery between the lt1 and coyote is very noticeably different.

I like the Mustang, I just don't trust Ford to make it reliable.

After this driving experience. I'm convinced that for sure I would delete my Camaro's NPP muffler to have a similar exhaust sound experience.

A non npp sounds better than a non npp Camaro across the board imo.

As an X owner of an 18 5.0 NON-PP and now an SS, I found the GT to be fairly sloppy when pushed. The rear end was disconnected from the front and would move around quite a bit. Decent amount of body roll and numb steering made for a less than engaging drive. The SS feels the exact opposite. Planted, confident and communicative. I really like my 5.0 but in driving it daily, the SS makes me smile WAY more. I'm sure the PP addresses some of the issues that a non-pp car has.

Idk man. I got rid of my 15 GT for a 20 SS 1le.
The mustangs a POS. I swear by this and it's the reason I didint get another one. Other things bugged like floaty suspension, or the endless headache of fixing stuff. Hoping the Camaro works out better. But overall everyone with a mustang seems to have issues. Also I notice the mustang is "easier" to drive slow but when you start pushing the limits its just sloppy. Last edited by Coded4SS; 01-27-2020 at 02:07 PM. |

I think there is a night and day difference in performance between the 18+ GTs and the 15-17 GTs. The 18s definitely caught up to the 16 SS and left no doubt that the Camaro was World's apart from the Mustang at the start of the 6th Gen. However, I am not a fan of the 18+ because I cannot trust them. I think Ford asked too much out of that engine and it is suffering because of that. There are a lot of serious issues going on with it that I would never be fully comfortable with on.
Having said all that, I would prefer the 15-17s because I do think they are more reliable especially when boost is added. And it seems they are easier to tune. If anything I would spring extra money and get a RS3 GT or one of the LPF or Jackhammer Mustangs with the warranty added. Or if I was gonna mod it myself I would go with a 15-17 and mod it from the ground up including a set of cams and boost as well as suspension upgrades. But either way I suggest choosing carefully. |

Good video on why the 18+ m6 GTs didn't get as much faster as many thought they should have been. Thing is, in practice instead of nerd theory, the new car is still faster given the gearing disadvantage as the old one was too busy with shifts and the video doesn't take shift speeds into account. I don't think tight gearing would make it quicker, look at the tightlt geared gt350 and it's 526hp, the 460hp GT isn't far behind.
https://youtu.be/Y25ordkIfgM Pretty funny how hard he shits on the long gearing considering the m6 ss has even longer gearing but it's pretty quick still (probably the torque advatange handles the long gearing better). I would agree that while it's nice that 6th gear is a super tall overdrive for highway cruising, our 5th gear didn't have to be such a steep over drive.

Lol...
Engine problems on Gen3’s way over blown by internet drama queens who bailed on fear porn. They are not whisper quiet motors having no cylinder sleeves, plastic oil pan, and DI pumps. Yes, they tick occasionally when cold and make a little rattle sound around 2k rpm. Show me the actual engine failures...? Mine burns zero oil and rips @ 10k miles. |
