Who Said We Need Negative DA To Run 10s Stock?!!

Finally got back into the 10s bone stock and it didn't take mineshaft air! The 2 passes in +172 DA, were actually my 2nd and 3rd passes, as I spun badly on the first one. I wish the DA hadn't raised so much, so quickly. It was -765 when I first looked at 9:00 this morning. By the time we were allowed to make our first passes at noon, it was already +172 and not even 2 hours later, it was +478.

Note: the right lane has a speed sensor out and the left lane reads about 3.5 mph slow in the 1/4.

Here is what went down last Saturday on the drag radials. The first 2 passes in the low DA were straight off the street from the drive to the track. Wish I would've had time to ice it down good. Might've gotten a 10.7!

Once again, the left lane reads about 3.5 mph slow.

Thanks! It's bone stock. Just have a set of 17" drag radials I can swap for the stock wheels and tires on the rear.

Basically it compares the atmospheric conditions to a standard. Lower DA=denser air, higher DA=thinner air.

give an explanation of your launch rpm, setting used, launch control or not, tire pressure, etc, etc.

great passes and great 60 ft times. We need more guys out there proving the ZL1 can run at least 11.0 with factory tires and the 10 speed auto.

Thanks guys! It's pretty crazy to think you can go out and buy a car, take it to the strip, and run 10s without doing anything to it.

I had everything in Sport Mode (except exhaust stays in Track). Used Competitive Mode so I could easily do a burnout, stage it, and launch it using the old fashioned foot brake technique. That's honestly the only hard numbers I can give you really. Everything else is all based on what the track will take. I've ran anywhere from 13 to 24 psi. Higher pressure for higher grip tracks. Launch RPM is always done by feel, but watching my PDR recordings, show I'm usually between 1200 and 1500. During launch, you have to find the highest rate of speed you can roll into the throttle without spinning, or triggering torque management if you are on drag radials and a good track. What I mean by triggering TM (because it's always there holding us back when there is a ton of grip) is if you spike the torque load by maybe matting it from idle, TM will cut power and will have to dial it back in. You don't really notice it until you look at your time slip and see a slower 60' compared to what you can get from brake torquing and rolling into it.

Congrats David, you continue to prove that you're on top of the game when it comes to getting these cars to run to their true potential. I have no doubt that if anyone can extract a 10.7 out of one of these with just drag radials, you'll be the first to do so if it hasn't been done yet.

The best way for sure.... drive by the seat of your pants and no nannies for best ET and 60 ft times. Easiest with a auto, difficult with a manual.
