A 500 gig commercial hard drive (which contains 499,289,948,160 bytes) is actually 465 gigs (499,289,948,160 / 1,073,741,824) before being formatted and before anything is installed (I looked it up). Windows 8 requires 20 gigs and it uses another 18 gigs for various programs it installs taking up a total of 38 gigs. This means a 500 gig commercial hard drive after having just the OS and no other programs installed will have 427 gigs left over for the user.

Sorry you are correct about the size of a disk being smaller. I forgot about the whole convert to 1024, I was thinking of a disk space in terms of humans and not computers. But as for the install I have successfully installed windows 8 and 8.1 in a Hyper-V machine hosted in a Windows 8.1 Box with 25Gbs of allocated space. This not only installed the base image but also office 13, several other desktop apps, and several RDBMS clients along with their files. Here is a fresh install of Windows 8 on a 320Gb drive I just did on a older laptop of mine. This is just the install of a base 8 with all apps installed and an install of iTunes. As you can see the OS is only using 14Gb of the boot volume and 500Mb recovery in the other partition

Good luck with that, no telling when that will happen. Also M.S. not making the internal HDD non upgradeable is pretty telling. Also aren't external hdd slower than internal ones? Anywho I'll probably pick one up when Gears of war eventually comes out.

No, internal and external HDDs are the same. However going over USB 2.0 would be a hindrance versus internal SATA. The XB1 is equipped with USB 3.0 ports which have enough bandwidth that you wouldn't know the difference in terms of read and write speeds. If you've been following the XB1 before and after its launch you would know Microsoft is actually receptive to criticism and willing to give the fans what they want. Major Nelson confirmed external HDD support will be supported later down the road.

Isn't 3.0 a 5Gb/s connection on paper while the Sata is a 6Gb/s connection on paper? I am assuming the One is a 6Gb/s connection internally as I haven't really read into the tech specs of it. |

Wow I can't believe they charge 50 bucks for Angry Birds: Star Wars. I think the most I would pay is like 10 for it. |

As you can see mechanical drives simply aren't quick enough to utilize all that bandwidth. They probably won't ever be. SSD's are a different story.

Several months behind but I finally opened and played my XbOne with BF4. Played it for about 30 mins. The graphics are amazing. Hopefully I can get to play on live this week

Anyone else having Netflix issues? This morning I had no issues at all with Netflix but now it just buffers every 5 minuets. Got so bad I had to boot up the 360 and it hasn't buffered once in the middle of the show. Did the sand thing yesterday as well.

Are both your 360 and XB1 connected the same way? Wireless or wired?
Netflix streaming seems to be working good for me. I've been watching a few different things today.

Xbox one is wired 360 is wireless. Even if I put the One wireless so it's the same setup at the 360 it still buffers. Have a friend that has the same issue who has the One on a wired connection. My MacBook, iPad, 360 and Blu-Ray player all work without a problem only the One buffers. It was working fine for me all day long but at night time I just get buffering. The same thing happened yesterday as well |
