Gen 6 ZL1 is my choice. Has the back seats that I will occasionally need and the Lt4 that I will always need for 20k less then a base Z06. The lt1 does not excite me in the Vette. Drove one a few times. Can't go wrong with either. If I didn't need the back seats I would be looking for a Z07

Test driving is free! Definitely take the opportunity to drive a ZL1. I drove a 2013 SS and ILE. I didn't fall in love with either. Ended up buying a 2012 base corvette.

I had my 2012 vette for about 1 1/2 yrs when, just for a whim I test drove a used 2013 ZL1 with 17K miles. I came SO close to trading it in on the spot. The ZL1 felt like an entirely different car from the SS and 1LE. I pined and pined over the ZL1 until Jan of this year, couldn't get that ZL1 out of my head, and I finally traded in my vette for a 2015 ZL1. I did love that C6, but it just wasn't a comfortable car to drive for long stretches which is important to me for the amount of driving I need to do.

I figure I'll have at least 50K+ miles on my ZL1 before the next gen ZL1 comes out. Will test drive the gen 6 SS, but doubt anything will sway me from my ZL1 until the next gen ZL1 comes out.

The C6 and C7 are completely different cars. Interestingly though, I can't say I like one "more" than the other - they are so different, and both pretty awesome. Thread is getting long and don't remember if you'd driven a C6 before, but just for ducks, if you haven't already you might want to compare with a C6 - base and Z06 as well. Test driving is VERY clarifying.

To the OP

If I have the choice, I pick the '96 LT4 in my sig to drive over the '14 SS every time

It felt really good to get back in my 1LE on the drive home. I am about to buy my third 5th gen and once again passed up the Z51 for a used ZL1. No contest at least for me in that choice. This car need not fear a Z51 performance-wise.

But we are talking CA6 here. Want more reasons? The Stingray:
  • costs more (and can be much more) expensive than
  • insurance is more expensive than for
  • mods are more expensive than on
  • has no back seat unlike
  • has very little room for stuff unlike
  • depreciates faster than
the CA6 SS.

But if you are looking to find a pretty passenger, the Z51 will have it all over the SS.
Except insurance is actually cheaper. The Corvette is a much cheaper car to insurance than most out there, due to the average ownership group. My C7 is cheaper to insure than both my Audi's, and was the same price as my wife's previous Grand Cherokee.

Mods, serious mods, are the same price, if not cheaper. My SC for my C7 was cheaper than the current Mustang and Gen5 V8 kits from the same vendor. Superchargers for C7's are extremely inexpensive because they are such a simple design compared to previous gens. I paid $4,900 for my ECS kit shipped to my house and $1,300 for the install including tuning.

I put the same amount of luggage in my C7 and we do in my wife's SQ5 for trips. We're taking off for 5K of driving on Wednesday.

You think Camaro resale value is going to be better than C7? A lot of it is perception of the owner but resale is always going to be better on the higher end car. I'm surprised what people will pay for C5's and C6's to this day.

You're right about that...when I traded my 06 C6 3LT on my Grand Sport they gave me a decent amount of trade and a good price on the GS. Days after the deal, I went to their site and they listed my C6 trade in for over $33k. That was almost a year ago. It was pristine and had everything with only 26k miles but that was way above the trade value they gave me. That car was sold shortly after that...wonder what they actually got???

No supplier pricing on the Camaro for 6 to 10 months and C7s anywhere from 6-8K under MSRP.

That's a really compelling reason to go with the Vette.

That's where you guys come in. Please give me your thoughts.
I have driven a Z51 and the interior is very tight. I have a 99 C5 now and the new interior is just too cramped for me!

I drove a C7 for the first time two weeks ago. I go 6'0 and 160 pounds. It felt like 'the car was built around me' as a member in this thread described it. If I was bigger I could see the seat and console configuration being a little claustrophobic.

But it REALLY felt perfect for me.

Sat in both a C7 and a Z28 at the local dealership this week. FYI, forward visibility is far better out of the Vette if that matters to you... Vette interior did not feel tight or claustrophobic to me (5'11", 150 lbs). Recaros on the Z28 were wonderful but a bit wide for me.

Our builds are similar. I don't think the Vette interior is tailored for big guys.

Maybe the competition seats offered for 2K are a better fit for them and similar to the Recaros you sampled in the Z28. I have not sat in those.

I have had a C7 for 1 and a half years now and love every thing about the car. If SS Camaro was a low 30,000 dollar car I would have to consider between the two. but with the $49,000 I paid for the vette and well over $40,000 for a SS Camaro, there was no decision. the vette every time..................

My build cost for a 2016 2SS would be about 48K MSRP. I would have to work my own deal to get below that with no supplier pricing available until probably June.

A new 2016 C7 Z51 2LT can be had right now for below 64K, and the C7 will hold it's value better over time.

As nice as the Camaro appears to be, IMO the Vette is the better car. Suddenly 16K doesn't seem like so much. I was expecting the price gap to be closer to 20K.
