My weak MAF! Thanks to Chase on Sunday I'll have a new one coming my way this week.

My MAF has a gray retaining clip on it. Whats the best way for removal or unplugging it?

Whew, just check mine and I have a strong MAF. I'm glad my first mod can be CAI rather than a MAF that can handle mods

Use a small flat head screwdriver to (carefully) slide the gray retaining clip out. Put it somewhere safe. Then you can unplug the connector from the MAF sensor.

Thanks! I've gotten the retaining clip out no problem. I can get it out with my thumb nail. My issue is the connector and does it just come out on its own after rentention clip removal? The wires really scare me as they're just there and I'd hate to accidentally jack one up or pull on them.

It won't come out on its own after removing the retaining clip. You still have to squeeze down on the top part of the connector to disengage it and slide it out. The gray retaining clip is just a second level of assurance to keep the connector from rattling itself out if it came loose.

This actually gets brought up a lot. Here is what you are looking for.

Just a follow up on this. I got mine swap out last week and all is well with Red Storm. Though it had been said a fuse pull was not needed, I went ahead and pulled #5 and #20 since I'm not driving the car at all these days and left them out over night.
When we do a start up and on the road a relearn should be golden with this new MAF. Not sure what to do with the old one as I'm not one for retaining parts. LOL
Thanks Chase!

A fuse pull isn't needed when you install the new MAF but it never hurts.

"Weak" vs "Strong" Camaro SS MAF Sensors

*I am not here to argue. This May or may not be an issue, I am not an expert mechanic. I just wanted to post my own results.

Car=2011 2SS/RS- HP MOD's=CAI intake, Apex scoop/washer bottle relocate kit, full Dynatech exhaust, no cats, JRE tune.

My MAF just shows a "J", picture provided. Data log snapshot shows what's going on. I've data logged a lot and also just watched the data on the gauges page and my "weak MAF" almost never dips below (*edit 1800mhz) 2000mhz.
Maybe there are just bad ones out there, kind of like everything else, I can't tell anyone that with certainty. If you have a "weak MAF", or even a "strong MAF", and have the ability to see it in action on a screen, do it. What can it hurt?

My .02!

MAF ( I have many other pics of the MAF if anyone wants to see them)

Datalog through iTSX app (screenshot from iPad).

Absolutely. This is one of those things that isn't a stand alone performance mod, it is just a potential issue for those modifying their cars. IF you have drivability issues after increasing air flow then the "weak" MAF is the culprit but there is no need to change it if it doesn't act up.
