GM chose to engineer and manufacture a heavier duty version of the 10AT than Ford has chosen. Ford chose to develop an 8-spd version of the 9-spd design. The transmissions developed by the two share “powerflow design”, which is basically the intellectual property design of the shifting strategies (which clutches are energized under what conditions, how the electronics interact, a whole bunch of other stuff I do not now and never will totally understand) ![]() They’ve done something similar to this before. Ford’s highest volume 6-spd FWD is an adaptation of GM’s original 6-spd FWD transmission (2006-7 timeframe), though over time, both have made changes that make them significantly different from one another. Companies sue each other over powerflow, so having the two work together to develop it saves both a lot of potential legal headaches and/or development cost.

not posting this to stir up shit, I'm sure all mods are not disclosed but damn the mph these cars are pushing n/a is pretty amazing and this pass was in +1700' d/a, easy 132mph car in negative air. should easily be a mid 140 car with a TVS on pump gas... kinda makes me think i'm going to have to upgrade in a couple yrs.

I seen that. That’s really fast as claimed. Other cars in much better air with similar mods haven’t hit that yet
There’s also a vid of an 18 full bolt on with weight reduction, cobra jet and ftw purple. Ran 10.7@130. It beats a new zo6 from a roll. Mph is good. But it looks like I’m still in the mix with them comparably modded. |

the 60' is holding the 18's back. If someone releases a converter or guys start running more gear then we see some very good times when the -d/a rolls around again. Last edited by FastCarFanBoy; 05-27-2018 at 11:29 AM. |

Yep. The cobra jet car was still in the 1.6s. I can hit 1.5s on a perfect run. Even steeda car in negative DA, c85 fuel and 4.10 gears didn’t bust out of the 1.6 and ran 10.7. They may need a converter to go 1.5 The SS don’t gain much with a converter on the stock cam. Both on converter I’ll need a cam and or heads to stay in it or quicker against the really proper ones. I imagine they should gain a few tenths with a converter. Not as much as in the past with the a6 but they should pick up decent I’d guess Looking forward to seeing them at the track |

thats one thing I noticed about my A10- 18 GT. it's pretty soft out of the hole. it doesn't feel like anything close to 460 hp car. then again no low end torque will do that

My 15 GT was disappointing due to the lack of low end power, the 3.31 gears, and the fact that they kill the throttle from the factory. The only saving grace was that it was the Premium which gave me the toggles and I could switch it to Sport or Track mode which gave me more throttle. That helped, but it still wasn't enough to satisfy me as compared to my SS. In fact, my 15 GT never felt like a 435 hp car at all. It didn't start to feel fast until I voided the warranty with a tune and the GT350 stuff. In contrast, my 2010 SS always felt fast from the test drive to the drive home and months after. And that was just with 3.42 gears. Both cars were M6 trans BTW. Even the PP GT with 3.73 gears still felt slow on the low end even tho they would just spin the tires. And the sucky part of that was at highway speeds your engine is screaming which I don't particularly like. Even with 3.31s I felt my engine was screaming at 75-80 MPH in comparison to my SS.

To be honest, I'm still not seeing anything impressive about these cars? To me they are not doing anything special. I think people are hyped about them only because the 15-17s were pretty lame. And I think people are trying to make it out to be more than it is. Once you see the mods done to these cars you kinda figure that is what it should be doing. And even then I think the fact that the Ford camp has been known to hide or not fully disclose mods kinda takes away from everything. I see these cars run these times and I can't take them seriously. |

You yourself said that you are sure that all the mods are not disclosed. Did you not? So how can you be impressed with something if you don't know what's done to the car? For all you know, it could actually be slower than the full mod list would suggest. My other comments are justified seeing as how we have seen several examples of people and even vendors/shops hiding mods. Even the guys on M6G called certain ones out for doing that. We all discussed this at length so there is no need to go over it again. I merely mentioned it as a footnote. And the 15-17s were lame in comparison to the 18s. You guys have been frothing at the mouths ever since the 18s hit the streets. I never saw anyone this excited over a GT since the Coyote first hit. Nobody jumped for joy over the S550 when it first hit. Not like you guys are doing now. And even you, you have been praising the 18s and arguing back and forth from day 1. So that is the basis of my comments.

DA doesn't effect my times nearly as much as regular 93 when using e85. It makes a difference but not as large as one would think. E85 burns much cooler and is more resistant to DA changes. Something like ftw purple is really going to run well regardless of DA.
Was just thinking last night when I was out in my car and it was 85 out. It still felt pretty strong. My 505 rwhp 5th gen SS would feel considerably slower on really hot summer days. It was heads cam ls3 and 93 octane. Sometimes to where I swore something was wrong with it lol. My best trap yet of 126.5 has been in positive DA. About +300. I don't consider 1700 bad air really especially when using e85. But its pretty impressive nonetheless |
