I had a 1987 IROC that I drove the piss out of that had 3 engines put in over the 11 years I owned it(bought new) and in my older age tend to take care of cars better now! IMO just because the ZL1 is like a race car doesn’t mean you have to drive it like it was one but if someone wants to drive theirs like that then I understand!

Got to drive it, like you stole it. It was made for it!

Respectfully disagree Prometheus at least in my case! Others are free to drive theirs however they desire though!

Chalk up another one with Greg's style, I don't keep mine in performance shift mode all the time either. I'm more of a "good to know it's there when I want it" and occasional romper/drag racer than a "hell yeah brother, every stoplight is a burnout pad" kind of guy.

As to OP's concern, although mine isn't a ZL1, it has similar power and it doesn't feel slow or sluggish. OP needs to obtain some hard data, dyno sheets and acceleration times before any sensible non-guesswork advice can be given. If it's still a problem, that is, given the thread is oooold and has its own life now

I came from a 2019 10speed FBO mustang GT and recently bought a 2019 zL1 1LE. I also feel similar to op. The car definitely isn't slow but not as fast as i thought it would be. Im sure the fact that i haven't owned a manuel in a couple years and being used to the 10 speed has a lot to do with it, but it was kinda disappointing. I raced a 2018 SS with the zl1 and i wont by like 3 car lengths before i had to slow down, but it just doesn't have the fast or crazy feeling that i was expecting.

I’m sure it takes a lot of work to balance the car to feel stable and controlled rather than crazy

Lots of people say the manuals feel underwhelming

The tall gearing definitely make it feel that way.

If you want the car to get more aggressive, a good tune will do that.

With the great air you've got, density altitude = -10.21 m, it's never going feel a lot better, so something is amiss. I would take it to my race shop for a diagnosis

i think the elephant in the room about stock ZL1s is that generally they are slow and underwhelming, especially an m6 car. it is difficult to argue otherwise when basic bolt on na cars will easily run with them.

the other side of that coin is the chassis ability to handle power. its difficult to get a stock ZL1 out of sorts given all of the factory engine protection software in place. much like the paint... if you give it as much as a stern look its going to disappoint you.

lol what kind of crack are you smoking? I can absolutely say for 100% certain that every single person I've given a ride in my car was laughing their head off and said "holy shit" at least 5 times each. I used to have an SS 1LE, the ZL1 feels like a top fuel funny car in comparison.

Concur. Underwhelming is not a thought that comes to mind unless the ZL1 is broken. That’s hilarious

As mentioned, the chassis and suspension in this car are so good it handles the power so it hides the speed really well. 100mph in this car feels like 70mph. The tuning also requires you to get deep into the accelerator to access all the power. I think the Hellcat throttle mapping is not as linear so it feels quicker at partial throttle.

These cars are very fast, but they are well balanced and put the power down quite well, otherwise they would just be a hot mess with folks wrecking them, like Mustangs.

These cars definitely run. Doesn’t feel like it till you leave somebody in the dust next to you.

Most cars get destroyed! Engineering nailed it on this platform!
