this. I have no doubts the 8l90 will hold whatever I throw at it. except the stock tc. if I throw that at it, it shows problems

Well mine returned today, after 6k trouble free miles from the triple flush. I will definitely not be getting GM to replace my tc though. Going aftermarket- as a matter of fact I’m about to remove my TCM to send it in for unlocking when I get home this evening. Maybe tuning can eliminate the slip and therefore the shudder, I don’t know. If it doesn’t I will be buying a Circle D.

If you have the shudder, it wont go away. zeroing the slip tables will help but once it starts slipping there is no turning back. It will need a new converter. I had my converter changed Feb 2017 and didn't know about zeroing the tables until it was already too late and it started again. I do have 35k miles on my car though. Converter was changed at 14K miles

Just ordered this as well. I’ve only got a few hundred miles on my car and have been driving around mostly in manual mode because I’d like to avoid this whole train wreck... I’ll report back as time goes on. Thanks to Driski for the info.

I got the Range AFM Delete and really like the new feel of the transmission. Feels so much smoother without the AFM cutting in and out. The 1-2 shifts when cold is better as well.

I’m curious if just changing the slip tables would be enough to give some longevity to the converter.

I’ve said for a long time the AFM is more than likely harsh on TC’s. The torque pulses as the 4 cylinders cycle has to be a contributing factor, but if they are programming it so the converter slips to try and cancel those pulses, it leads to other problems.

I’m going to contact the dealer for a service printout of my car to see if anything was done prior to me buying it. One thing is for sure, I’m glad I have a lifetime Powertrain Warranty.

Watching this thread because I think I experienced the dreaded shudder today driving to the shop to get my new hood painted. It was running fine then all of a sudden tad I started to accelerate lightly is started to shudder. On highway, I actually pulled over and restarted the car just to see if I could hear anything on startup...nope.

On highway, I found going to manual made it better but not sure it made problem disappear.

If this is “the shudder”, is there any reason I wouldn’t just get a better aftermarket converter instead of the trash from gm?

I had to removed the Range AFM device from my car because the pulses were so bad I could not take it anymore. Range is sending me another one to try and if I don't like it they are giving me a full refund. It actually feels better without the Range on it. I had the flush done at 22,000 miles and I have 27,000 on it now. I just want GM to fix it. But I will take it and get the NEW FLUSH done to see what happens.

a newer converter would wear out just as quick, but as long as you removed all the suspect fluid, refilled with proper stuff, and tuned the slip tables, the new converter would be better.

As of 2 minutes ago, GM has NO protocol in place for service departments if the magical super flush, excuse me, when the magical super flush doesn't work. TC replacements are still on lockdown.

That is the "Shudder".

One thing you can try is a Fast learn reset with HPtuners. That seems to fix any oddities I have had with shifting after making TCM tune changes.

From what I have seen for those with persistent Shudder issues... a Circle D or FTI converter, new fluid, and tuning fixes the problem.

Yep. Everything from the tune that could be done, was done. I like the idea of an aftermarket tune. Originally I thought I had something come loose under the car. Yesterday I heard a noise under the car near the rear and thought something came loose. Today...shudder.

I will check to see what the process is with the dealership first, but likely I will skip it and just get a real converter

This is the reason I am not even bothering to bring in my car for this new "fix", waste a day of my time having the car sitting at the dealership for a fluid flush again, which will be a waste.

Curious to know if anyone has attempted to bring in and have this new flush done.

I'm still shuddering mine until next month lease is up and sorry to say but the next customer that buys the car can deal with this BS. Wasted plenty of time at the dealer for this and other issues. Getting too used to riding over rumble strips on the hwy is more then annoying.

My Camaro is now 3 years old and has 16,000 miles on it and while i kept it in pristine condition it wont matter as the A8 will never be back to normal in my eyes. I wish the best outcome for all of you and wiping my hands with this...
