Congrats! Glad they made it right. No way they gave you a brand new car unless they knew the damage was extensive.

I tried to go in last week for the free oil change at just under 1k miles. The service rep said GM wouldn't cover it since I hadn't reached the end of life of the current oil or some crap. I drove back to work and decided its just easier to do it myself then deal with the hassle of scheduling an appointment for such an easy task
After reading this thread I feel like someone was looking out for me. There is 0 chance I take my car to the dealer unless its for a warranty repair now. Congrats on getting a new car, and thanks for posting this, you probably saved a bunch of us a major headache down the road.

Glad that it all worked out for you in the end. I was going to post earlier that the dealership should give you a new car, but never thought that they would. I agree with others that the lift points on the Camaro should be clearly marked "Lift Point" with a pad. These cars are not lift friendly!

Glad they made it right. Sad to say that nowadays that is very very rare! Honestly, thank you for posting this because I had an appointment to take my Camaro to my local dealer for an oil change Friday, now I am going to do it myself. Only way it goes to the dealer is if its a warranty issue!

Actually, I think the Corvette comes with lift blocks and markings installed from the factory.

Well, what did you think they were going to do with it? They tried to hide the fact that they caused the damage to begin with according to the OP. They certainly wont have any moral issues in their mind putting that pile on the lot. It's great that they gave the OP a new car, but I still would never buy a car there. They only did the right thing after getting caught. Not someone I would want to do business with. I think the OP is doing them a disservice by posting the dealership. It's a wonder they didnt request that he didnt make it public as one of the stipulations of the deal.

To the aluminum discussion-
There were 2 specials recently on the Smithsonian Channel where they covered the mfr of the gen 6 Camaro; first aired in 2016. Total of 90 minutes, pretty informative. They remarked where they had to use rivets, and bond (with adhesive) the steel-aluminum members together instead of welding, like most of the top half of the car. The top main body appeared to be all steel, but the aluminum was down below this. During my first oil change, we were underneath the car, where we got a good look-see. Seems the mechanic and I saw lots of AL under there. (just sayin') Next time, I'm gonna bring a magnet. I'm sort of curious to find out what that main pan really is. Supposedly, there was significant weight savings in using the AL parts.... the primary reason for it. |
