There is no way I would drive a manual transmission in city traffic.

One of the big questions that rarely gets answered in these types of threads is, "Which is better? An A8, or an M6 plus $1500?"
If I was looking for a drag car primarily I'd opt for the A8, but I like being able to control the gearing myself when driving the twisties. Plus that $1500 is nice for a few goodies. When I was stationed overseas I made a point to hit the Nurburgring twice, once with my G8 and the other with my wife's 2010 Civic SI M6. And even though the Civic was worlds slower, it was a lot more exciting. Now on the Autobahn it was horrible because everything was faster than her car lol.

Any time a sales person talks you out of the choice you've pretty much settled on and into an alternative that you were clearly not considering with any real seriousness . . . it's a situation ripe for regrets later on.

That works whichever way anybody is initially inclined on this transmission choice thing if he gets talked (conned?) out of it - and also goes for other things in life.

Maybe it takes a little time before you trust your own instincts enough to push back against whatever form of sales pressure is coming at you. Having a well-developed sense of stubbornness seems to help.

So true! Unless the dealer is buying the car for you, tell them to keep their opinions to themselves!

Salesman sounds crazy. I don't think there's better resale on an auto. At least not on a Camaro. If anything I'd think its lower. This is coming from an auto owner. My gen 5 was a manual and I don't think if it had an auto I would have sold it nearly as fast as I did.

I regerets nothin! M6 ftw! It really is simple for me, manual = joy, interaction, being in total control and more than just hitting the gas pedal and brake with 1 foot. Going through a curvy road and just constant downshift and upshift (or track for that matter)... Can't get that joy with a "click" and trust me. I have owned twin clutch transmission vehicles before...

Though, I do not DD my car nor do I live in an overcrowded place. Even then... Nice leg workout and extra movement while you sit in a traffic jam (driven quite a few times in Houston and Dallas rush hour, but I don't live in it so I can't say I would be fine with it lol).

The only regrets are:

I don't have one of each (have an A8).

Wish the A8 had an off on switch for AFM - while in auto mode (hate low speed afm activation, can at times feel and sound like it's lugging). Otherwise, the transmission works great and is a hoot to drive.

Considering all the negative A8 posts, I can't imagine it not being fun to manually shift the auto (not paddles) either on track or through back roads. If I owned an A8, I would NEVER drive it in automatic mode. I guess I'm spoiled from always manually shifting my previous GTI's fabulous DSG gearbox. Since I've never driven one, is the Gen 6 A8 not similar in manual shift quickness?

A8 is faster. People get A8 for a few reasons though. 1: drag car. 2: they live in a crowded place that actually have stop and go traffic often. 3: Don't know how to drive a manual. 4: Just don't care.

We own both an A8 and an A10.. I manually shift them both and also let them do their own thing.

It's nice being able to remotely crank both our cars. Not get a left-leg only work out in traffic. Be consistently faster in drag races. Etc.

The A8 in our SS does perfectly fine on road courses and I had 0 issues last year passing people at Road America and I kept up just fine with it over at Autobahn CC during my one-on-one Golden Ticket session.

I've not really tracked the A10 yet, but I will soon.

Both of us are perfectly capable of driving a stick, so it's not a "we can't" issue.. Mostly, it's just who really gives a sh*t... It's what we wanted, so we got it.

I think you misunderstood my question. When I asked about "manual shift quickness", I was referring to manually shifting the A8. I'm just curious if the A8 shifts as quick and direct as my GTI's DSG transmission. Anyone driven both?

no regerts here...

M6 Daily Driver (70 miles per day) 17k miles already.
I probably hit 40+ minutes per day in stop and go traffic.... I don't even think about the shifting....

one day I knew there was going to be traffic, so I drove my F150 to work that day thinking Ha... no shifting! but the traffic still sucked and I missed my SS
