First SS A10 I test drove felt not broken in but could tell it was going to “feel” faster once it was.

Mine feels fast as hell now.

Regarding the Mustang GT, I’ve put quite a few miles on a 2020 GT and I don’t think it stacks up to the SS. I did like the car and the 5.0 sounds great from the factory but the speed/power isn’t there in comparison. It just seems much more tame and less capable. Car doesn’t handle as well, felt heavier IMO, not as race like and it feels less powerful.

Cares basically same quarter mile and mustang has 5 more ponies....So speed/power is basically same.

I’ve onwed both s550 and now camaro SS could tAke corners just as well in my mustang as well as my Camaro. If you are running the 20’s with 305’s and 285’s and didn’t upgrade the shoes on the s550 or driving a 1le then yes it corners better.

I upgraded to 295/30/20 on the mustang and it is every bit as capable as a camaro. Chevy does do a better job of stock options but mustang has the way bigger after market sector.

The real world comparisons I've seen on youtube though the Camaro has more low end power and usually has the edge BUT the Mustang GT eventually makes up for it and it catches up quick. There is a good comparison video on youtube two guys drive each others cars to compare. The Camaro SS owner thought the Mustang catches up in a hurry once it gets going.

Still the raw power of the Camaro and Challenger Scatpack I would take over the current GT though!
I agree, it is certainly odd! I'm not saying one is better/worse than the other, but the Mustang feels less athletic and less powerful. Idk, I was a Mustang fan for MANY years when I was younger.

I guess my money spoke for itself. Cross shopping the (today's) GT & the SS, the SS comes out ahead for me. Better styling IMO, better interior, immediately feels like a sports car, explosive power, etc.

I'm not certain what a Mercedes has to do with any of this but, , but I do like S550's as well. I've said my experience/opinion of the GT and that is yours. If someone were to tell us two to race in a real world twisty backroad situation (I don't street race or condone it, for the record), and have to choose between the SS & the GT for our car... I would undoubtedly pick the SS any day of the week. That is just my 2 cents; I could still lose .

I am a believer of driver mod before car mod, so that doesn't really play a factor for me. I am sure others care more, though.

(And given Mustang's reputation, wouldn't you wish more of their drivers focus on the driver mods first?)

The Camaro is a very good package out of the box IMO.

The 2011-2014 Mustangs felt pretty powerful though. As I said my 2012 GT was slower than my SS but the thing still hauled.

I personally prefer the design of the 2011-2014 GT over the current Mustang. If they could just throw the current GT's performance into the next gen before that would be great.

My 2016 SS certainly feels more premium with the interior compared to my Mustang. Much better quality I think.

Can you imagine the SS if it had 4:10 gears on the auto? Probably off the line would be hard to hook up.

my 1LE felt slow when it was stock. primarily because it hooked hard and lets be honest, it was a 115 mph car...it was slow. i had faster cars in 2001.

it's getting better, but still feels pretty slow in 3rd @ 4th gear.

the cars ability to maintain composure is going to make it difficult to feel fast. the car feels so planted and organized at every speed. i guess it needs more power.

Coming from only owning economy cars, my 2SS feels like a rocket ship. I feel like I am flying when I step on it. I basically have the opposite experience

Nothing in 2001 compared to our Camaros unless it was a ZR1. The SS even edges out a 2001 z06.

He does have a point about composure and stability, though. This car feels like it's crawling at 50-60 mph, whereas the same speed appears more and the ride "livelier" in a more clunky or twitchy unit.

When I test drove my car, before I purchased it, it broke the tires loose with ease. It put a smile on my face. Now the car is stupid fast, relatively speaking. I can't imagine what a ZL1 must be like. Even with all of the nannies enabled the car will swap ends faster than you can say "wheelspin".

it was indeed faster, as i frequently took the car to the drag strip. 94 m6 camaro blower car. it was lowered on all hotchkis? parts. been a minute. it was a lot of fun and a bullet for the timeframe. it handled surprisingly well for what it was. the stock ls1 car i bought next felt like an absolute bowl of soup in comparison (maybe because it was??).
