14 years+ no side affects that I am aware of. Was up and running the NEXT day. Checked the plumbing 30 days afterwards and it was neutral for little Pac-Men/Women running upstream.
BTW... make sure you get enough local anesthesia. Mine ran out halfway through the second cauterization and I could feel the energy up to my kidneys! He sewed up the second incision with my feeling every little stitch. That my friends is a TRUE JOHN WAYNE! YEEEEOWWWWW!!!! I just sweated through it and bit my lip off. True story.

Had it done about 10 years ago after the second kid. Two bags of peas and one corn. Spent the weekend in the Lazy Boy watching Oklahoma State football and NASCAR. She waited on me hand and foot for three days.
SSooch is right. My Mrs. Boss is more willing because it can be spontaneous now without worries. Ironically my Urologists name was Dr. Valentine. True Story.
