No, you are thinking of the Z28.

Yes the car will serve a purpose as the "dedicated track car" but if its only faster than the 1LE but slower than the ZL1 would it merit its price? |

I'm still sticking with my guess that the Z/28 is going to be the LT4. So it would be the fastest Camaro on the track. But lacking the creature comforts of the ZL1. I'm not in the "it has to be a different engine to be a Z/28" camp.

And I think they could do this at a reasonable price point!(under $70k) You take a 1LE and drop in this new engine (less wight than LT4 and also probably cheaper) go 305 square set up with Sport Cup 2s, add the ZL1 front fascia w/ crazy aero we saw at the ring, and CC brakes. I think they could do this with a base MSRP of about $65k! |

Regarding the ZR1, in the most recent video they have a Hellcat along for the testing, Why? Well it cant be for track duty, therefore it has to be for 1/4 and power comparison. My guess is that the ZR1 will have over 700HP and have better track capabilities than the ACR. They want the top 1/4 miler and top track dog. I think GM's going all out!

I still think it comes down to 2 key questions, neither of which we will know the answer to for a while.
1 - Does the Z/28 need to be significantly (many seconds) faster on the track than the ZL1 2 - Is GM still ok charging a $20,000 premium for the Z/28 over the ZL1 leading to very small sales numbers. GM has several options for an engine if we believe the rumors and semi announcements. First would be the LT5 or whatever red herring that might be. Is that the ZR1 engine? Above the LT4 in HP? Second is the supposed 4.x L TT that Cadillac is supposedly working on. We've heard that Cadillac will have EXCLUSIVE powertrains in the future, but a variant of a DOHC in the Z/28 could be very interesting if it is 500 plus as has been speculated. 3.0 TT in the CT6 is 400 hp so a 40% bump in displacement would result in easily 100 more hp. As for the limit in displacement, GM has already shown what it take to have 7.0 L NA engine rev to 7,000 RPM and it is BIG $$$$$$$$$$ to get light weight rotating components. I don't see GM going down in displacement if NA. That means going down in HP or even worse having a BIG $$$$$$$ engine with less displacement and equal HP. I don't think any one wants that. And lastly, the LT5 could simply be a messaged LT1. Pretty sure with a specific calibration and a small $$ hardware upgrade GM could get 500 out of an LT1. Oh this is fun.

I don't think it has to be faster if the prices are similar. The Porsche Turbo S and GT3 RS can run similar lap times, so the Z/28 and ZL1 should be able to, as well. If the Z/28 is $20k more and can't run similar lap times, that may be an issue.

The latest pictures of the car rumored to be named C7 ZR1 show a very well vented front fascia and a vented hood with a larger bulge than before. Click the link below for photos released today.
http://www.autoblog.com/2016/11/28/2...spy-shots-z07/ Rumored to be at least 700 HP I'm thinking GM will utilize Eaton's new 2650cc twin 170* rotors detailed in the link below. http://www.eaton.com/Eaton/OurCompan...es/PCT_2891540 These rotors have higher thermal efficiency, 18% easier to drive, produce more boost and more powerful in upper RPM's. It would be cost effective to put these in LT4 architecture, name the powerplant LT5 and produce 700+ HP and put in both ZR1 and Z28. In my opinion it appears that the Camaro and Corvette development teams have shared notes, ideas, development time and possibly more on the 2 cars being discussed. All pure speculation on my part but it makes dollars and sense. A primary limiting factor of RPM's is the heavy VVT lifters so unless GM uses more boost and eliminates the VVT I doubt we'll see any high revving engines using the LT architecture. GM also renewed trademark license on L88 about 1-2 years ago so maybe there is more yet to come... I think the rear/mid engine Zora will likely utilize a higher power version Twin Turbo DOHC V8 similar in architecture to the Twin Turbo 4.2L expected for Cadillac's CT6. Additionally I'm of the opinion that the Zora will be a stand alone car without a moniker of Corvette lineage. The Bowling Green assembly plant added 450,000 SQ Ft ($439M) for a new paint shop and other structures and recently announced an additional $44M in upgrades culminating in 270 new permanent jobs. Add this together and it sounds like the new Zora will be a Ford GT fighter with very limited build numbers and the front/mid engine Corvette will carry on with a C8 sometime approaching or beyond 2020. Just my $0.02 |

GM has already said the Camaro won't be making similar power as the Hellcat.

I agree. I'm sure we will see 700+ hp in the next ZR1. In the camaro? Doubtful. I would bet we will see a hopped up LT1 in the next Z28 with around 530 hp. Not sure what they will call the next ZR1 engine or the next Z28 engine. Hopefully the next few car shows will tell us.
