Use any oil which is officially recommended in the car's High Performance supplement! No piece of information has invalidated this as proper and fully authorized choices. Any 0w40 or 5w40 (better for summer imo) meets full GM standard as long as it is Dexos 2, which is GM's own quality standard. Hence when an oil meets it then it is fully certified ***by GM*** as proper oil. There is no secret sauce about the new Mobil 1 0w40. All it means is that GM did a corporate wholesale deal with Mobil to supply their dealers with one of the oils that HP supplement recommends. As until now they carried ZERO such oils as part of their stock and had nothing but street only 5w30 to offer. This does NOT mean that whats presently recommended in the car's manual is all of a sudden invalid. All it means is GM dealers will now have stock of dexos 2 oil which can be used for both street and track vs street only, as recommended in the manual. And going forward will use such oil vs 5w30 (and likely increase their margins handsomely at the same time as an oil change will now cost much more regardless wether the car is tracked or not). Bottom line: lets not confuse information sent to dealers with what GM officially recommends (in writing no less), as proper and fully authorized oils which fully meet car's warranty standards. And thats not just Mobil 1 0w40 but ANY 0w40 or 5w40 as long as it is Dexos 2 certified (NB Valvoline MST 5w40 is now Dexos 2 as well). So no reason to panic and no reason to use only Mobil 1 just because thats what GM dealers will now carry, as other choices are clearly listed as equally good and fully authorized by GM. |

Thats what i use. It now fully meets Dexos 2 GM standard. So officially as good as any other Dexos 2 offer in that spec per GM themselves. Easily available too online, at Napa etc.

I talked to my dealership yesterday while I was there. You can take this info how you want. He said it will probably be a long time before they stock this oil in house due to low demand, then he reiterated "long time" could be a month or two. He said they can order it now with no problems @ 8.50 a quart.
He said if I wanted it on my next oil change, just call and give them a few days to get it in. |

Guys,
Finding this new oil has proven to be difficult. It appears many dealers are not properly trained. To get ready for camarofest I called 5 dealers today to find the new 0-40 oil. This will be my 2nd oils change. Online places seeemd like they could not ship due to hazmat issues? So I had to pay the $12 per quart dealer ripoff fee. I started off asking for the 19370233,1 qt bottles. No one had it. So I called the first dealership back and asked for the 19353135 1L bottle and they had 14. So I went to pick them up and they are actually the quarts. In the mobil 1 box with their part number. Mobil 1 part number 123875. Hopefully this stuff becomes easier to find. Where is everyone else buying it at a decent price? |

My gmwholesaledirect.com order was shipped today and will arrive on Friday using 2-day air. Cost was $7.99/qt with $2/qt shipping ($1/qt regular shipping). I plan to change the engine oil, differential fluid, and brake fluide this weekend to prepare for CFest 2018, The Ocho.

I went to my local dealership and they have the oil in stock at 11.49 a quart. Makes for an expensive oil change. Hopefully they start carrying it in store soon at more reasonable prices.

Yeah, hopefully. Id rather go Amsoil, Redline or Motul for that price.

Saw this at the local Walmart today. It's not the 0w40 but labeling hints at the new formulation.

Local dealership (Don Ringler Chevy) had the new 0w-40 ESP. They didn't charge me to use it for one of the two free oil changes. I also picked up one of the new caps and swapped it out. Really hoping the new 0w-40 becomes available outside of dealerships soon. $11.xx/qt is gonna hurt the wallet after the 2nd free oil change...
