Heck, the base CTS weighs a bit under 3,700 lbs, and its a bigger car than ATS. I'm pretty sure a CTS with all the goodies (but not the twin turbo V6) weighs between 3,800 to 3,900 lbs on Alpha. I can't see why GM would want to make Camaro on the same wheelbase as CTS, so surely the car would come in at a base weight of well under 3,700 lbs, which the current Camaro V6 does not do.

But if they go with ATS dimensions, i still think a 3,400 lb base weight (I'm talking base V6) is doable.
I think we'll all get a good idea of what the 6th gen camaro might weigh once the ATS-V comes out. I believe the LF3 and the LS3 are pretty close in weight.

What makes you think they will build the 6th on the same size wheel base as the 5th gen?

Odds are it won't be. It'll most likely either shrink from its current 112.3" to ATS's 109.3" or grow slightly to CTS's 114.6". But I guess that with Alpha being a "scalable" platform they, in theory, could go any which way they want. But not using either of them could cause an unnecessary amount of R&D to on suspension components. You move a few pieces a few fractions of an inch or more here and there and the ripple effect comes into play. Suspension geometries are thrown way off from simple spring changes, let alone wheelbase changes.

For reference sake Mustang rides on 107.1" and Challenger utilizes a 116.0" wlb

If not, then Mustang not in any different position as F-150 is; both will be available this fall, both have been said to possibly lose weight, and we as the buying public have no idea what that weight loss may...or may not, be.
The huge difference there is not only did the Mustang not lose ANY weight but it could be gaining up to 300lbs. Saying your going to drop weight from a model and failing to reach that goal yet still making it lighter than outgoing model is a big difference from saying that and it ends up much heavier.

Bottom line is that if it gets put on a ATS wheelbase it's going to lose weight. Just FYI the CTS lost over 200lbs by switching to Alpha. I know Zeta and CTS are not the exact same but they are really close. Also for what it's worth the new CTS on Alpha has dimensions of 114.6wheelbase, 195.5 length, 72.2 width and 57.2height. The old CTS is 113.4 wheelbase, 191.6 length, 72.5 width, and 58 height. As you can see the car gained size in many areas yet lost weight. I think GM would have to screw up royally not to drop weight in the 6th gen.

It would be pretty absurd to make such a claim, and then 10 or so months later when it finally goes on sale for it to be 70 lbs heavier. So it would be a pretty safe bet, in my opinion, that the new trucks are going to be substantially lighter than the ones they replace -otherwise there isn't much point in highlighting the efforts made to reduce its weight. It might be a few hundred pounds, it might be several hundred. But its probably not going to be roughly the same (or heavier).

On the other hand, I haven't seen Ford make a single statement regarding the weight of the new Mustang (heavier or lighter). If there were something worth bragging about, they probably would have done it by now. After all, a lightweight Mustang would be of far more interest to buyers than a lightweight pickup truck.
I've followed this closely. Ford was more forth coming on their F150, and while I'm not sure if they have released exact figures yet (I mean...how many F150 configurations are there...they'd have to release a book lol) they have said that depending on the model, the truck is XXX lbs lighter. Basically, the larger the truck, the less weight, and yes, they have said the largest models could lose up to 700ish lbs. The small trucks may only lose 4 or 5 hundred. Still damn good.

The Ford trucks were already, trim for trim, a good 250 - 400 lbs heavier than the GM trucks, so now after this update they will be about that much ahead of GM

Still not the 3400 lbs like all the Mustang fanboys said would happen. I guess thePill needs to adjust his bench racing strategy.

That puts the current 2015 GT within 200 lbs of the current SS. It's going to be interesting to see where the 2016 SS ends up.

+90 for the GT.

Brings to an end this sorry saga of Pericak "promising" 200+ lb. savings and "we're meeting all our targets".

Poor pill. He'll need to consult with Monica on how to get the stains out.

He's still stuck on the video of be BOSS running behind a Z/28. I guess he doesn't care that the video was the first time the driver had their Z on the track and the BOSS has been around for 3 years. Give the Z drivers a few track days to learn their car before writing it off but that doesn't fit his agenda.

What happened to the 3300-3400lbs Ford has been hinting at for 6 months? The Pill will no doubt highlight the improved weight distribution and how the Z/28 costs twice as much and only marginally faster than a base GT which is Gods gift to the automotive world...

ThPill was claiming the GT would run with the Stingray. Hopefully he doesn't take this too hard or when the 6th gen SS comes out, he may have a nervous break down haha.

This is more of what I expected. Mustang fans can breath a sigh of relief....sorry for those boys who thought it would weigh less.

I still feel the 6th gen Camaro will come in under those numbers. Not be a lot, but a nice amount under.

ThePill is an absolute hilarious joke.

Nice! Now I don't care to see anything unless it's the 2016 Camaro!
