I love my 2SS 1LE, but it is overkill for street, even canyon runs. You can do double the speed limit through the twisties and the car is still so buttoned down that there isn't much excitement in it. To really get a rush from it, you have to drive it at about 9+/10ths, which is totally unsafe on the street. Luckily I track it. Otherwise I think it would be rather boring most of the time.

The LT1 will let you have fun hooning around, and the lower limits (relative to the 1LE) will allow you to have a little more drama with the suspension (feeling of speed=fun!) in the twisties, all while going at a more reasonable speed.
My thoughts too. 1LE shines on track. It's nearly impossible to really appreciate the car on the street.

OP, save the money and go with lower spec car.

If you do not plan to track, the LT1 would be a great choice.

Let's face it, how many street cars REALLY need a diff and (manual) tranny coolers anyway? It's just more weight and more stuff to break/leak.

You WILL need rims/tires if you want to drive the car hard. The LT1 shouldn't have left the factory w/o that option, IMO.

You're absolutely right. LT1 is still fighting hard at my sensible side. Just swapping to a new set of tires on the stock wheels at $2k or so, I'm still up $6500.

Since whatever car I get, it'll get PPF'd, I'm sure the front end on the LT1 can easily be wrapped in 1 piece which will allow me to take it to other shops which will charge me $1000 less.

Well it's basically settled: Wife prefers the 1LE even after the added cost. Nothing else to think about

I'm not surprised your car is fast, it's all the same underneath. I like straight line speed as much as taking corners fast, which means I'll need a proper tire set up. I'll either have to get that from the factory or in the aftermarket. Either way isn't cheap. One of the first things I'm going to do once the car is broken in is take it for some spirited mountain runs.

No doubt that the LT1 makes the most financial sense to me.
The 1LE cars rear suspension is hung with solid bushings everywhere, and does get old when driven on the street regularly. The Lt1 has the base SS suspension and front brakes. Even the front tire size is the same as a SS, add a full set of michelin pilot 4s to the LT1 and you should be in for a nice spirited drive.

Good choice and I don’t think you will have any regrets!

None of that exists on the LT1 making for a much more pleasant street car and will run equal to or better than the 1LE in the 1/4 mile. I have 13000 spirited street only miles on my barebones LT1 and still love every mile. Oh and if your interested in some 1/4 mile action, I just made a pass at the track with drag radials on the rear, E85 and a LT2 intake and ran 11.60 with the fabulous 10 speed auto. ordered my 2021 LT1 and paid 35990.00 like the song says "cant touch that"
I have almost 60,000 miles on my 1LE. I don’t find the ride to be bad and I keep my suspension locked in Track mode.

I have had zero problems with rust on the rotors.

Once the OEM tires wore out, I replaced them, temp and rain problem solved.

Yes, you may be a tenth faster in the quarter mile, BUT, in EVERY other relevant performance aspect your car will fall behind a 1LE.

Please show me where I stated that 155 wasn’t fast? I’m confident that I can truthfully state that 155 is not as fast as 180+.

They are not the same Brembos. Whether the cooling is needed or not depends on the driver. Besides I’m pretty sure I didn’t address whether they were needed. I simply pointed out that your statement about what it takes to upgrade to a 1LE is inaccurate, because it is inaccurate.

Lots of people talking about how rough a 1LE drives on the street, but miracle of miracles, none of the people saying that actually own 1LEs. Makes me wonder how they ‘know’ this.

Steel rear suspensions bushings everywhere on the 1LE cars on a street driven car only...yeah they are rough. The 1LT will handle has well as a SS by just putting on michelin pilot sport 4s tires and increase the rear tire size to the SS size, fronts are the same size.

Dude, place the order before she changes her mind. Seriously, my wife convinced me to go with the SS because she knew that's what I wanted. Even if I trade the car some day, I'm keeping my wife!

Would everyone who purchased a 1LE, found the ride to be to rough and ‘upgraded’ to an 1LT please chime in?

Likewise, if you’ve owned both a 1LT and an SS, let’s hear your thoughts on the differences in handling and performance.

For the 1LT owners who’ve never owned an SS or 1LE, what’s the basis for the opinions you’ve so generously shared? Read it somewhere? Took a test drive once? I put 30,000 plus miles on a 2016 1SS before I bought my 2018 1LE, so I actually have long term experience DDing both.

The 1LE is superior, period.

Luckily for me I found one already built and in transit status. Just waiting for it to actually hop on a train here

anyone who thinks a ss 1LE rides rough is

a) too old to comment
b) too young to comment

those of us in the middle have all owned/ridden in cars that ride way worse. lowered 4th gens. 3rd gens on coil overs. lowered corvettes on stock bolts. hell my mazda 6 (touring) has a rougher ride than the 1LE in tour.
