So I'm in the elevator yesterday and two women, one maybe 40ish and the other in her mid twenties, get on and they are talking about the protest. The older one says something about the amount of people the previous night and the twenty-something says, "Yea, my friend is thinking about maybe going tonight but I don't know if I want to" exactly like you would if you were talking about going to a concert or to a club or something.

Based on the above, and looking at the demographics, I suspect a lot of the people at these things are there just for something to do.

As flawed as the strategy was, at least there was legitimate reasoning put into it. The last thing a volatile protest needs is some idiot hot wiring a nearby parked car and ramming it into people.
