I get where some of you are coming from. They accidentally screwed his car up, these things happen, I would be upset too, but accidents happen. HOWEVER, they let him drive out with visible damage. Clearly someone was hoping to dodge responsibility. That someone should be fired.

That's where I would be coming from. Fix my car, for free. Give me a similar loaner (not an SUV or some crappy sedan, a Camaro SS just like what I was driving) for free, fire the person who screwed up my car. Then I would let it go.
Fire the person that screwed up your car? Ok, with that statement you lost absolutely any credibility...

I'm in a Kia Optima. Asked for something comparable to a Camaro last Friday and today, still in the Kia Optima.

Camaros (at least V8s) and Corvettes are not used as loaner cars. Any goodwill exceptions to this long since evaporated during the initial indignation fueled interaction. Guess you’ll have to slum it in a Kia.

I'm not entirely sure it was lost in translation, though. See the text message from my update post. My service adviser informed me the vehicle was being taken to a local body shop for an estimate. I didn't authorize the estimate at their chosen body shop, but I didn't interject (when I got the message) either. The product of the meeting I had was an agreement to have a second opinion from a shop of my choosing before proceeding with the repair. I'm just trying to look out for myself; the dealership's certainly looking for the quick, cheap fix. My issue with any of this is when I found that repairs had been done when I was told only estimates would be done.
I didn't mean on your part, I'm thinking that somewhere between him leaving and before the meeting on Tuesday the conversation had was to fix the vehicle. Between the GM and Service manager is where my bet would be something went awry regarding estimate only vs send it for repair.

i corrected my original post. same post you’re referencing, read above. fire those dodging responsibility, which i agree with. may not be the one who actually damaged the car.

I sort of see what you’re saying but really the car is not more screwed up now than the original screwer had screwed it so it sounds like a demand for the tech to be fired. Claiming anyone needs to be fired here is absurd.

I'm not particularly concerned about whether you find me credible or not.

But to be clear, I think the person should be fired not because they screwed the OP's car up, they should be fired for not owning up to it and instead letting him walk out with the car that way.

That damage is to obvious for me to believe the tech didn't know about it. If they're that stupid that they didn't even notice what they did, they should be fired for that.

So, fire for an honest mistake, no. Fire for hiding that mistake and trying to screw over the customer, yes.

Fair enough, I’d imagine the dealership would have similar feelings about your opinion on whether or not their tech should be fired and your potential lack of satisfaction if he manages to keep his job.

Given that I come from a family of lawyers and I can afford to file a lawsuit without spending any money other than court costs I suspect I could find a way to make them care.

It's not the mistake, I've made them myself many times. It's the dishonesty.
