I suppose Dodge had no right to wear it either since the holier-than-thou Third Gen Junk had its time with it. And yes, Ive owned several third gens back in the day. Slap IROC on a stock V6 gen6 Camaro and you already have the best IROC street car ever made. These guys are doing something with the name that should make the series proud. Can't wait to see it. The gen6 is the best Camaro every built. I'm not sure IROC even deserves to be on such a great car.
It's a joke because it's attempting to ride off someone else's thunder. Any heritage the IROC-z name carries, at least as far as Camaros go belongs to Chevrolet.

6le didn't buy rights from GM, they sniped the name when it's trademark expired. So yes, a joke.

Doesn't matter how good of a job he does or doesn't do, he has no place to do it.

GM licensed "IROC", they never owned it.

As popular as the IROC was in the 80s you would think that Chevy would try to obtain the rights to the name again and reintroduce it.

So your telling me the company that re-creates the trans-am out of current gen camaro's is a joke too ? I can't help but feel there is some jealousy in this thread, 6LEdESIGNS which is a one man show is doing something awesome and putting a awesome name on it.

Why be so heavy opinionated on it like you owned part of the rights and it was taken away from you or something.. Just be happy for the man and support the projects these guys take on to bring US the industry products we wouldnt have without them.

some people...

Sure cars today will blow the doors off of them with little effort. Cars have improved a lot in 30 years. Shocking!
Telling the truth isnt being disrespectful. Besides, its a car not a person. It neither earns or gives respect despite whatever national ad campaign you may have seen. When you come off of the cars from the mid 60's to very early 70's to a third gen IROC Camaro you'll understand. It wasnt their fault that the government scewed over performance, but facts are facts. Companies had to come up with creative ways to keep people interested. A catchy name from a racing series, plastic body clading, a spoiler and good sounding exhaust was all it took for mullet heads to come flocking.

Love those wheels by the way. Can't wait to see the end result.

The '85 IROC LB9 was actually the first Camaro off the floor in 10 years that eclipsed 200hp. Anything '74 or later was garbage performance wise through to about '84 when things started trending upwards again. It was the era that performance started returning in spite of emissions controls. Peaking at around 245/345 with the L98's for the generation.

It wasn't nearly as bleak as people make it out to be. Certainly not "muscle car era" (which I think is vastly overrated) or what we have today, but given the climate it was an improvement.

"the holier-than-thou Third Gen Junk" was the line that got me. Go stack up a 3rd gen IROC to a stock first gen 350SS and you might be surprised. Particularly around some turns. I have a fondness for 3rd gens myself (as shown in my signature). Mostly because I appreciate them for what they were... the beginning of the return to performance.

No the fourth Gen with the LS motors were the beginning of the return to performance.

L98 TPIs were a joke performance wise. I had them. The cars themselves weren't that bad. Im partial to the GTA Trans Am over any of the other third gen cars made though. They were more upscale and less mullet head of any of the mullet head cars back in that day. Lol

Oh, and nice try on changing my quote to suit your argument. Very liberal of you.

As did I. Plenty of torque, no top end, dies around 4200RPM, comparatively decent on fuel, and pretty reliable. Par for the course for TPI engines. The L98 was great during that era, again, considering the climate and competition. Manufacturers were doing more with less displacement despite restrictions, as well as EFI being in its infancy. Can't agree with you. The 80's were clearly when things turned around from the cesspool that was the 70's.

The GTA is a nice car, especially with the digital gauges and such. '89 TTA is even nicer. Guy up north signed up with our 3rd gen F-body club and posted pics of a TTA he found in a garage with less than 2k on it (or something like that, ultra ultra low mileage). Had full documentation with it, turned out on top of it all, it was a festival car from one of the races. Bastard.
