Spec miata lap record for nasa on the chicane course at mid ohio is 1:45 i think at mid ohio and scca i believe is 1:43. Those are full race motors and very prepaired with top spec miata drivers which are no joke. I know some of them well. As i stated in the comments of the video when i posted it is that this was both drivers with the cars at the track, no testing not practicing nothing, just going out and getting used to the car. I did get the car down to a 1:39.2 in the 2nd or 3rd run. Which i think at mid ohio is pretty good for a large car on street tires. Mid ohio is very technical and not friendly to larger cars like vir or road atlanta.

That was fun to watch. How do you like driving the Miata coming from high horsepower cars? You Sir can drive. I'm trying to go back to VIR in September on the 9th and 10th. Could be very interesting. Just modded the cat and it is making 770 at the rear wheels now. Hoping to make the Charlotte Motor Speedway this Sat with it but waiting on the tuner to send me some tweaks to the tune. Really curious to see how it holds up temp wise with the extra boost. The mods are really for drag racing and runway events but I still want to road race until I can get a dedicated track car. Maybe I'll see you out sometime.

I'm not trying to insult you. You're just proving my point.

Equal drivers in both the ZL1 and the Ford GT and the GT will walk away with ease. That's why these types of videos are misleading to the layman.
Not insulted, but this video got blown out of proportion from someone else not me. 4 seconds is alot of time actually one car would lap the other in 25 laps, and yes if the ford gt was driving very hard i think it would be in the 1:36's at mid ohio maybe 1:35's just a guess. Not sure if you have been to mid o but its a very technical track, and for a miata that is 2200 lbs on slicks pulling 1.4 gs vs a zl1 that is 3900 lbs on street tires pulling 1.2 gs is obviously gonna drag ass thru the turns.

I agree with that statement. This video shouldn't be on the home page of the forum. The Ford GT guys are going to laugh real hard at the people who believe that a ZL1 is faster around a race track than a GT.

I think what surprised most people is that the zl1 in the straights held up pretty well and not to bad in the turns, the driver the the gt is no shlub, i know him well and he tracks a gt350r on a regular basis and is pretty fast, there is an in car video of the gt on youtube and he isnt poking around as bad as most people think, just breaking a bit early and overslowing the turns a bit, but still pulling 1.2gs in about every turn, the car is 400k. Mid ohio sealer is not very good and its really hard to pull a high g load there regardless.

Miata is a blast, but alot different than high hp cars, Miata is all momentum as all cars somewhat should be but, in a high hp car your setting the turn up for a better exit everwhere, in the miata its about no losing anything anywhere as the penalty for a mistake is massive. In a high horse car the penalty on exit or over slowing isnt nearly as large. Juggle them any way you like but other than driving skill aside grip and hp are what creates good lap times. Ive got piles of seat time in mostly vipers but alot of other cars as well, so im pretty good at adapting from a miata to viper to anything in between.

Why was the POS silver car in the beginning even allowed on the track?
The Ford GT is a 3000lbs Twin Turbo 6 banger. I wonder if the power is linear like a V8.

Lets face it guys, if the driver who did the other video of ZL1 times at the Nurbugring driving the stick were driving this car he would have laid waste to the GT. We can all agree that that particular driver was one of the best.

I can't believe we're talking about a Miata on a ZL1 1LE thread. Totally joking. Someone who is in the know once told me that a Miata is the perfect race car. I personally love all performance cars and like the variety on this thread. We should all appreciate each other's cars because all of them combined make for a much better experience for everyone! Am sure there is something about a Miata that a Camaro engineer has examined to improve performance and possibly vice versa. Now, if only the Tesla owners would get off their high horses. ;-)

But... put Bill Wise (driver referenced) in the GT and it would lay waste to the ZL1. The real question, put him in each and then see what happens. IMO, it's not even close.... GT smokes the Zl1. It should at $500k.

@ 3.14 in that video, it appears to me the GT pulls buss-length's on the ZL1 on the straights.

The Ford GT driver was inconsistent. When he had decent corner exit speed and actually put the gas pedal all the way down and held it there he could walk away on the straights.

Again, this is why I don't compare "DE" videos for car performance anymore. The driver variable is too great.

The bottom line is that the Ford GT will walk away from the ZL1 on track with similar drivers.

This thread has been great...one thing I know is I've got a lot of knowledge that is needed to be gained for the track. Having never done it, I've got to find & make the time to do this right, get an instructor and better respect the 650HP I have.

I'm most certainly not going to be worried about times as a novice & focus on the fun...watching these vids is painful. I'm so far from good tracks & making the time away from work is gonna take some patience. This is why I bought the ZL1 & not sure when I'm going to nail this bucket list down.

Good stuff.

Its like comparing a 69 GTO to a 69 MG Midget. No comparison.
