Is the price worth it? yes

but for the average buyer who just wants a sports/muscle car I think they'll lean more toward the Mustang/Challenger if they're on a budget and want to save a couple grand.

also leasing wise both the Challenger and the Mustang are cheaper, at least where I live...

GM needs more rebates/incentives but they're not going to release them anytime soon because the car just came out and it's "Motortrend car of the year" so I don't think the price will drop till next year....just my opinion though

being a previous mustang guy, i complained as well about the mark up & really none of the sales guys here in houston knew why the SS was so much. but, i got a good discount off of 38k and spent 35k, but did some research and found a review on car & driver that explains the disparity between the ford GT & the Chevy SS: The SS model comes standard with Brembo brakes, 20-inch summer tires, and coolers for its transmission, rear differential, and engine oil. It’s the same sort of gear included in the Ford Mustang GT’s $2495 Performance package, only standard.
Made total sense to me. but here in Houston, finding a 1SS manual is next to impossible, so i had to order it. But, totally happy & glad i was able to afford it. now, some better informed Sales Guys would have helped me along - but sad to say they didn't.

They like to tout their sales without incentives to investors. This, and a higher average sales price within a segment. To the business-concious, this means more profit.

That's exactly why.

Is the price to high for the car? I suppose it's in line with the segment for what you get. Is the price too high for me? Yes :(

It is what it is, folks.

The LT1 is around $5,000 more expensive than the LS3, the car now has a more expensive platform, etc. It's not like GM had a choice on making the car dramatically cheaper than it is.

The LT1 would cook itself without the extra coolers, the car would go into limp mode fairly quickly with an automatic without them, etc.

They could had de-contended the 1SS a bit to help it be more affordable by not making RS standard, making the 1SS gauges the same as the 1LT...

Running the smaller center dash screen, etc.

All of those could have taken the price of the 1SS down about..maybe $1,700? That would have essentially kept the SS price of entry down to only a few hundred dollars more than the outgoing 2015 1SS.

Also taken the RS equipment off of it (lights, mostly)

Funny you said that, based on this thread it sounds like this A8 is cooking itself.

I think the car is about ~$5,000 too high...A base Camaro SS is damn near $40,000 out the door with no options

FYI, I just got $1000 Rebate off a new 2SS Camaro + Supplier pricing.

and you will probably have to order one to get it that way since most of the dealers want to turn a profit and order them loaded including $2000 redline wheels.

I am struggling myself what to do this summer with my current 1LE. I don't keep cars for 10 years so I may just go get a low mileage garage queen 2010-11 Corvette Convertible for $30-35k. Similar performance, proven LS3, less depreciation...decisions.
