I absolutely love the color, especially with the inferno red interior. If this next car comes through with the paint problems I'll be going nightfall gray.

Okay. Today I drove over 100 miles each way to check out my buyback MBlack SS. I brought a prety powerful LED flashlight as the day was only partially sunny. I scanned each outside panel vertically looking for variations. The car was a little dirty, so I thought I saw a few variations but after carefully removing the dust/water sopt it looked perfect all the way around the car. Looking in the trunk I did notice a small missed spot on one of the hinges, but other than that I found nothing else. Phew.
Then I drove it, awesome! It might even let me not miss my ZL1 so much. It just seems like a more expensive car now. It is more modern but it lost a little muscle swagger. No matter. I am looking forward to bringing it home. It is a M6 2SS, MRC, NPP, Nav, and sunroof. Nothing else. It even looks good with the standard wheels.

The wife and I had a rare weekend where she and I actually had time off at the same time and decided to take her new camaro out for a drive. 20 minutes into the drive while listening to XM the audio system died. About 5-6 minutes later it comes back up. We stop and have some lunch and do some shopping. We get ready to leave, she starts the car, the system comes on but the screen seems to freeze instantly and just doesn't do anything. We thought it was dead but we could hear some sound so my wife used the steering volume control and sure enough we could hear the station we were listening too when she turned the car off. The screen was completely frozen but the volume level would still go up and down but nothing else. So she turns the car off let's it sit for a few minutes and turns it back on. Everything starts up just fine so we leave. After about 20-30 minutes the audio cuts off, the screen flashes some message that neither one of us fully saw but I am pretty sure it said something about this accessory is not authorized?? That was interesting as we had nothing connected to the system, no usb, bluetooth, aux - nothing. We said whatever and just kept driving and about 5 minutes later the audio comes back on. We know it was nothing to do with XM because at that time we were listening to the radio so we are now adding issues with the audio system to the list. Also we aren't sure if it's a product of the NPP system or something is loose but we are hearing something metal sounding from under the car. It seems to come and go, almost sounded like a clunk? Adding ANOTHER thing for the list.
That was Friday. On saturday my wife had a 22 mile training run to get in so she takes the camaro. She said she tried to use the navigation portion of the system, input her destination and was driving for about 15 min and the entire system went off again. I was picking up our dog from the groomer so I met her for lunch and had some tools in our jeep so I thought I'd pull the battery cables and see if I could get the system to reset itself. Done and done, hooked everything back up. I go to close the hood and the damn hood won't close. I raise it, nothing wrong so I try to close it, lean down and look in as the hood is coming down don't see any issues try to close it again and it won't close. After trying my hand in different positions I finally find that I have to use both hands in line with the hood vents at the base of the hood to get it closed. So there is ANOTHER item for the list. With the hood closed, my wife starts the car, the audio/nav came right on so she put in the info to a new dog park and we left. She calls me not more than 10 minutes down the road and said the screen had gone off but she could hear the directions. At this point we are tired to dealing with it so we take a quick lap around the dog park and go home. This morning (Sunday) I wake up to my jeep gone and the camaro sitting in the garage. I knew my wife was pissed but it's beyond that now. She texts me around 10am that she is done at the gym and would be home in a few. When she get's back we figure out our schedules for the week and go grab some lunch, we swap cars so I can drive the camaro and we leave. The audio system is working great! For about 35 minutes. We didn't try to mess with it any more when we got back in the car after lunch. My wife didn't even want to drive so I drove home. So along with the massive issues with the paint on the inside and the outside of the car we can now add - - a possessed mylink system - some random clunking/metal type (?) sound - a hood that will not close unless you use two hands This from a car that now has a whopping 340 miles on it. We have now sent an email to GM and were given a case number, the person stated they reached out to the service manager we have been in contact with. Not sure what other information they will get back to us with as the only thing we know at this point is we are waiting to hear back on a date to meet with an area field rep so that person can look at the car. It's beyond frustrating, my wife wants absolutely nothing to do with the car at this point and I don't know what to tell her. Hey, it's going to get better? 340 miles into owning the camaro 1)the dealership that sold it wants nothing to do with us or the car 2) the paint is horrendous 3) and now every time we drive the car it seems we find something else is wrong with it. Yes it's a redesigned car, yes there can be issues. We get that. If it was a loose nut or bolt here or there fine. If it had one spot on the trunk lid that needed to be addressed by some wet sanding or buffing fine. But the reality is this car should have NEVER left LGA - period. At this point we are going to take a break from posting for a few days. Honestly I am tired of thinking about about this car, it's upsetting me that it's upsetting my wife and it's a vicious circle at this point where when we talk it's about the car. Hopefully we can get some good news this week and if we do one of us will update at that time.

I got a lot of underpainted "interior" sections and I've noticed some flaws in the metallic flaking of the external panels.
However, I'm not willing to give the car back and wait for some replacement weeks from now, if not months. Not sure what recourse that gives me. |

Tony should have never been released form the factory.
This is beyond UNACCEPTABLE. gm and chevy should be offering you a new car to replace Tony. Best of luck dealing with this car. |

If thats the case it doesn't explain the lack of Quality Control. If they can't Eyeball a defective paint job at the end of the line then what other defects are getting past? ![]() ![]() Makes me start looking at the Mustang now. Last edited by Marty McFlew; 02-22-2016 at 02:32 PM. |

Like they said at the yea ol salt mine, if you haven't got the time to do it correctly the first time, how are you going to have time to correct your f***-ups?
Feel really bad for the folks that have received defective cars. People on here are also more demanding and they should be, than some. I see GM tossing the dice and hope that most will not complain. |

But you guys are actually little ridiculous with comments like this. First of all: Do you have any idea how many cars are being put out of the factory that are just fine? No. Because they don't post here, or make a fuss. However, go find a thread about someone who loves their new 6th-gen and how it's the best car they've ever owned...you'll find that they're quite common...and more common than "problems" threads. Fact is, we don't know the extent of the problems. You may think you know...but you don't. Secondly, if you think even for a second that Chevy and the Camaro team is just watching these issues with their hands in their pockets and a vague hope that threads like these will just magically go away, you're absolutely nuts. They have weekly meetings to evaluate warranty claims, issues with cars, and work to make running changes to production in order to improve quality. Changes to things like window rattles that nobody even notices...you may not have known this, but consider it while playing keyboard engineer... Likely, they're down the factory's throat trying to remedy the situation at the source. But if you've never worked in the industry, then you have no concept of how such fixes do not happen overnight. Right or wrong...that's the nature of the beast. Fact is - cars are an amalgamation of complex moving parts and advanced systems designed to work together in utter perfection (that's the goal...). Things break. Repairs get made. That's why every vehicle sold new today comes with a warranty from every company. Just remember that...... Finally, The fifth-generation car had similar growing pains when it was launched...If I recall correctly, just two of the issues was the battery cable coming loose; and on the ZL1 launch, the steering rack came unplugged on a few cars. These things were rectified as quickly as possible, and everyone was too busy enjoying their cars, that they forgot about it. So...now that I'm done soapboxing...let me clarify that I don't believe these issues such as the Mosiac paint problems are okay, and I'm not saying that. What I am saying is that some people (with no stake in the situation, I might add) are blowing the scale of the problem out of proportion, and you've got to simmer down a bit. For the person who wants to look at a Mustang...please do: And report back what you find in terms of panel gaps, fit and finish, and interior rattles while test-driving it. The grass is always greener........ ![]() The reason everyone is up in arms is passion for the car. Enthusiasm at its core. Passion and enthusiasm is a great thing. But patience is a virtue...The topic at hand is Netslave's car, and the apparent in-progress remedy for him. Let's let that play out...I for one, am sorry he's got to deal with this, and am looking forward to reading what he has to say as the ball gets rolling. |

And to those of you wanting people fired, have you ever made a mistake at work? And who did not realize that in buying a first year totally new car there might be problems? Having said all that, those with skin in the game I hope you get everything worked out to your satisfaction. Check out the Lemon laws in your state and open a case with GM if warranted. GM does stand behind these cars. I am not a fanboy, just a realist. If I wanted a refrigerator I would have bought a Toyota. But even they are having more problems lately. Cars are just so incredibly complex these days.

This entire odeal sucks. I'm so sorry. The dealer that sold it needs a trial by public opinion. This forum is a good start but you should also consider GMs Facebook page. I really hope GM comes thru for you.

Mr. Wyndham makes excellent points. And knowing some engineers myself, I'm sure Chevrolet is doing everything they can to find and fix stuff as quickly as possible.
Unfortunately, the public face of Chevrolet (and nearly every other car manufacturer) appears to be individual, privately owned dealerships. And those dealerships can (and very often do) suck. I think some of the ire we see here is the result of bad experiences with a dealer, rather than the company. Imagine the difference if the -dealer- had simply said "Yup, that's unacceptable, and we're going to fix this whatever it takes". Maybe they can't, maybe Chevy won't back that. Maybe Chevy wants their dealers to respond this way, and the dealers are the problem. I don't know. ALL I know is there's a problem with how some dealers are handling problems like this. People get mad when they spend $$$ and feel like they have no recourse when a serious problem is discovered. The intermediate layer of privately owned dealerships is a big part of that problem. I wonder if it frustrates Chevrolet as much as it can frustrate us? I'm guessing the anger directed at the "QA people" is because we tend to view them as the last line of defense. We KNOW the dealer isn't going to be any help, so we hope the factory catches any problems before they get to the dealer. Because once it's out in the wild, we're probably screwed.
