Personally i'd like to see a mixture of wind/solar/nuclear/hydro to provide our energy needs. The idea of digging up rocks(coal) out of the ground, transporting it around the country or world and then burning it for energy is just so archaic and wasteful. I bought my Camaro knowing it will most likely be my last ICE vehicle, and i'll keep it forever if possible. But i'm not opposed to electric vehicles, i wouldn't want to be an early adopter right now, but in 5-10 years as they are in a 2nd or 3rd generation and the tech is fully developed I see them being superior to ICE cars in almost every aspect aside from driving engagement, dynamics, and involvement.
Cold weather? They will probably be fine in TX. How will they work at -40F in the Winter. We will see.

Its not like ICE vehicles work perfectly in extreme weather scenarios either, but i'm sure with the billions of dollars that the OEM's are pouring into the R&D, things will only get better.

ICE vehicles are going to be around much longer than people think especially in trucks for towing long distances. It was made political and when something is made political things take much longer. I heard on the way to the doctors today that even if supply issues improve not enough Americans are buying them over ICE compared to other countries. Which is why I am assuming is to why Ford has that ICE and EV division same with Toyota and Ford dropping EV from their Superduty trucks for now. That and EPA got hit by a Supreme Court ruling concerning Power plants. I hope that illustration that GM teased is something coming for the Camaro since it appeared it had a manual shifter but I am not holding my breath on that. That being said if they choose to keep Camaro ICE if they do another one I expect hybrid engine options. Think the new mustang will have hybrids too but will maintain a NA V8.

True that ICE don't work perfect in extreme weather, but EV's have a much broader variation of performance in extreme conditions. I even notice it in my Hybrid... temperatures between the 40's to the 80's make a significant impact on my Hybrid battery, so much so my fuel mileage will vary as much as 25 MPG with similar driving conditions where at 40*F I'm doing good if I get 30 - 35 MPG in a Prius and at 80*F I can get as high as 55 MPG ... In my SS on the other hand, the same temperature variations make almost no noticeable impact in my drivability range or even performance.

An EV takes a much greater range loss in extreme cold than ICE vehicles do, and they perform very poorly when recharging in these conditions as well.

I have big concerns on the EV used car market. I read an article the other day a guy bought a used EV with like 200k and the battery went out. $14k to replace it. He just trashed the car and bought a used ICE. That’ll be tough for the lower even some middle class incomes.

Granted early Gen domestic EV (forget model) and hopefullly there is some standardization in the future. But it is an obstacle to think about.

You can limp along an old ICE vehicle with repairs here and there… if a battery dies just like an iPhone. It’s done.

Agreed. EVs are more like iPhones in this sense. They typically offer a good 8 year 100-120k mile warranty on the battery and electric motors, but the current price of a Model 3 battery with installation is like $16k. On the flip side the EV drive units tend to last a long time. Folks claim they will go for a million miles.

One must assume that batteries prices would decrease over time as they scale up production but so far it seems to be going in the wrong direction. Furthermore mining the metals for batteries is messy process. I think the industry is banking on battery recycling technology to help offset cost and protect the environment. For example, let’s say, you need a new battery and it costs $10k, you may be able to trade your old battery and get like $5k for it since all the raw materials are still intact. It just needs recycling to be used to make new batteries.

To answer the question in the OP. No !

Crappy driving range, hours to fully charge, lousy infrastructure that's just not for me. I will not get anything that is EV only.

Here's a short recent video that just gives you a taste why green tech works in some places, but not others. I wonder when some people will realize that different solutions are optimal, if not required, in different locations and situations and that trying to legislate the same solution for a country the size and as diverse (in many ways) as the US, let alone the entire world, is asinine and not based in reality?

Avoiding specific topic, but do you think this is truly meant to be intelligent legislation and not just a grift done by what amounts to a cult?

Hah. Those are exactly the EV cons about which I completely don't care lol. Maybe because I daily drive my Camaro to work and back, not really tracking

On the track you run out of juice - hour break I guess, if they have 350kW charging station...

How often do you drive 300 miles?

Will you be going from 10% to 100% every single day and do you need that range every day? You don't operate an EV like your phone or laptop. You only charge for what you used for that day. I only consume 15-20% on my commute, I only charge to 60-65% SoC, and it takes about an 1 hour-1.5 hours while I am sleeping to recover that charge.

Infrastructure is an issue, but will get better in time.

If your lifestyle doesn't fit where EV's are right now, that is fine. But I keep on hearing these talking points and yet the people bringing it up never or very rarely hit usage that will make an EV impractical for them. It's like buying a Silverado 2500 HD Duramax because you might just need to tow a 8000 lb trailer once every 2-3 years.

When your options are an ev Camaro or a volt we all know which one you’d pick.

Yep! There might be a Hybrid/V8 Mustang in the garage around 2026 or so.
