After carrying a 10mm 1911 daily since 2008, I pulled the trigger last night on a new carry rig. H&K VP9 (OD Green) with a G-Code IWB (I absolutely love G-Code holsters, I've got 5 now and every one of them is fantastic).
I'm torn a bit as this is a step down in many ways. I live in the great state of NY where I'm limited by the NY Safe Act to 6 + 1. So even though I move from a gun that anywhere else can carry 9+1 to a gun that can carry 15+1, I'm still stuck with 7 regardless. And I've always felt that having 7 really HARD hitting rounds (200gr FMJ moving at around 1250 fps) was better than 7 smaller rounds with around half as much energy. We'll see. It's clear that I can put 9mm on target much faster than 700ft-lbs worth of 10mm, but dammit I know it's going to feel like I'm shooting pop-corn.

As far as the REALLY short guns......I've shot several really short doubles and pumps. One was an original Ithaca Auto Burglar. Quite rare. They are FAR worse in the muzzle blast department, even if only a 20 gauge. FAR harder to hit a target at most any distance, as soon as the buttstock is no longer available. Not what one would want unless it's a firefight in a phone booth. Considering the paperwork BS one has to go through as well as the $200 stamp....not worth it in my opinion. |

Forgot I had that crappy digital even saved.
Note the serial # magic marker'd on the bottom of the stock...easier during Inspections, to note the #, versus taking it out of the mount. Also the side saddle ammo carrier on the receiver. Haven't seen that old girl in a long time. Carried that same 870 my entire twenty three years. Couldn't imagine the number of road injured deer, elk, bears, etc I shot with that thing.....hundreds. Nice VP9 - how do you like it by now? Mine just fits and points perfectly really liking it. Dont think I have ever had a firearm that was so ergonomic. Considering giving the new VP9sk a shot also. .

Left Hand Mernickle holster, double mag pouch Beretta PX-4
I have a barely used mernickle holster and double mag pouch for sale. Its left handed for a Beretta PX-4 Storm. Has some really nice tooling on both.
$100.00 takes it.

I've got about 200 rounds through my brother-in-law's VP9 and another buddy's VP9. My wife bought a P30S in 9mm a few years ago that I've put about 4K rounds through so far. It's a wonderful firearm in every sense of the word. Whoever is designing H&K handguns truly knows how to run a gun. Everything about the P30 and VP9 just WORKS. The OEM stippling is great, the configurable side panels and backstrap are wonderful, the size of the firearm is perfect, the triggers are excellent ... I can't find fault. Well, actually, my wife's P30 ... I hate the safety. As someone who has almost ~80 thousand rounds through 1911s in the past 19 years, I have a habit of resting my strong-side thumb on top of the safety bar and in the case of the P30, this puts the first joint of my thumb right on the back of the safety which pummels the joint during recoil. I can't put more than 200 rounds or so through the gun at any one range sitting before the pain is unbearable and the bone ends up bruised for a few days afterwards. So when it came time for me to choose, it was going to be the P30 non-safety, or the VP9. I ended up choosing the VP9 because it appears to have a larger after-market following and, frankly, because I like OD-Green/two-tone which the P30 doesn't come in.
