This is also my question as stated in my post... I wonder if this is why the old owner got rid of the car. If I recall, the repair date for the oil pump was close or similar when the car went back to the market for sale.

Not unusual. When I bought my 2019 ZL1 -6300 miles- in April of this year it had an oil change but nothing showed other than a sticker on windshield and 100% on OLM and wore out tires.

Damn... At least you don't have to worry about an oil pump failure anymore

Well this is more understandable. Anyone can change the oil, write on the sticker and reset the OLM.

But if GM did the repairs are part of warranty, i would expect that to be included. Shady business most people that don't know about this issue probably will steer clear of a car that shows oil pump replacement, maybe that's why they didn't report it?

I guess i don't have to worry about it anymore

How can that not show up on the carfax of the car?

Does anyone here work at a GM dealer? If so, please let me know if you would be willing to assist me in getting a repair history from GM. My dealer did not want me to keep a copy of it. I was able to read it and that's how I see that the oil pump was replaced.

See if you can take a picture of the paperwork with your phone. Convert that to a pdf and then you’ll have some documentation. BTW, you can always request from any Chevrolet dealer a copy of any/all warranty work done for your car. I’ve always asked for an updated copy any time I have service done, including an oil change.

Went the Katech route just for piece of mind. I spend most of my time on track with this car so to have a failure happen there is not ideal for me. Also strengthened the heads while I was at it plus I removed the VVT and installed the DOD.

Add another to the oil pump failure. Went to zero at idle, but still had good pressure over 2,000+RPM, drove the last 5 miles home fine, just keeping RPMs up. Replaced the oil pressure sensor and still have the same problem. Going to call and have it taken to the shop on Tuesday (Monday is Labor Day). Good thing it should still be under warranty. Build 05/2017, only 22,900 miles, had it since zero miles and also serviced at the same dealer.

Because a Carfax report is not worth the paper it is printed on.

Talked to Dan at Katech. He says the eccentric "slider"/gear portion of the pump that results in variable pressure is manufactured of low carbon steel and prone to cracking - he says this part is unchanged 19+, so he expects failures will continue. This part is manufactured of billet in their upgraded pump

He also told me their upgraded pumps are produced in batches and currently on backorder. He recommends that the engine be removed to replace the pump so it's probably ~$2k in labor

Class action against GM coming?

Thanks for the info.

I won’t be concerned until I see more than a few 19+ LT4’s have issues.

Does the replacement of the oil pump extends my bumper to bumper warranty on the engine/powertrain?

Clearly there was a failure inside the engine. Isn't there the potential for other things to break as the result of that failure?

Nope. As far as I know, flaws do not extend the warranty coverage period, all the warranty covers is their resolution, parts and labor. An extension may be granted at GM's discretion, but it isn't automatic.

Correct, only the replacement part gets covered from most manufacturers. So a oil pump replacement would get a 12 month or 12k warranty if the factory warranty was about to go out.
