Yup I own a 1LT and its one hell of a car.. couldnt be happier with it. But I am trading up to the V8 next year becuase thats an amazing car.
That doesnt mean I wouldnt be opposed to trade up again to a TTV6 corvette. |

The thing is that a turbo, most likely twin-turbo V-6 is going to weigh more than the LS3 and upcoming D.I. 5.5L V-8. That is why the LS1/2/3 is such a popular swap because it's compact and lightweight. The LS3 is 10lbs lighter than the new Ford 5.0. It is also slightly lighter than a 13B with the twin turbos and piping from the RX-7. The current 3.6L V-6 in the Camaro weighs 370 lbs. Now add twin turbos, intercooler, piping, etc and it will weigh more than the V-8.

Weird....two issues though...if the idea was a mid-engined Vette...the DCT would have been a transverse design, not longitudinal. Meaning it couldn't simple be popped into a Camaro unless it was 1) FWD *shrieks*, or 2) also Mid-engined...
They'd have to develop a whole line of these advanced transmissions. I wonder if they've got the drive (no pun intended) to do it, now? I remember a report stating they had been looking into it, but the investment (nearly $500,000,000) didn't justify after they just developed and released their line of 6-speed autos. I'm very interested to see what happens here! (The Turbo V6 thing doesn't surprise me, though...smaller engines are becoming more efficient AND more powerful...But that just means big engines are doing the same. ) |

if they can make a v6 push out so much power with out wasting fuel, why cant a v8 do the same? i think maybe a future v8 can have even more power. i mean the current camaro SS isn't bad with the MPG and it's a v8. i believe that no american car company will ever just give up on the v8's that kinda what they're famous for. maybe a base corvette will be a v6 but not the other ones

I may be in the minority, but I'm not crazy about the sound of V8's. I haven't heard the exhaust note of the 5th gen, but I didn't really care for my 4th gen Z28 sound. I bought the car because of the bang for the buck performance. I prefer high pitched, high revving engine sounds like the Formula 1 cars. I don't know much about engine building (weights, etc), but I wouldn't care if the engine was a V6 as long as the performance and fuel economy were there.

chances are if it does happen which it won't, ford wouldn't like to be the "environment killing car company" and will do the same.
and if they do i'll sell my soul to the devil and bring back AMC and make v8's

What's the point of changing the V8's to V6??? to gain more mileage??? but if the V6 has a TT its pretty much gunna have the same mileage with the V8's maybe even lesser mileage than the V8's gets. anybody agree?? |
