The fact that 1st of 2nd owners of a car don't see any issues with a bad air filter before selling it at 30k miles, doesn't mean the engine didn't get dust and sand that shortened it's life.

Also, if you never change the oil, and sell the car with 20k miles, you most probably won't see any issues with it.
I ran a high flow oiled panel filter in my GMC Yukon for almost 100k miles before changing it. The 5.3 engine was still perfect at 229k miles when I pulled it and replaced it with something hopped up a little.

A friend of mine has 370k miles on his Yukon with the original motor. It has had a K&N cai for about 200k miles.

Oiled filters do not cause premature engine wear. I run the Roto Fab dry filter on my car because I like how it looks. Just keep a clean air filter on the vehicle of some sort and move on with life.

The cleanest 01' Yukon on the streets I would wager a fair amount. So clean it's almost hilarious every time I see it.

I just cleaned the AFE filter on my 2013 GMC sierra the AFE filter went on that same month since new. after one and a half years of neglect since last cleaning and 10 years later the intake tube after the filter is absolutely spotless nothing inside that could be detectible as an abrasive of any sort going into the engine, not even a film of dust. I’m actually very impressed.

Agree or disagree? I'm curious on this: I've personally had MAF sensor issues with oiled filters, and have not used them since. Now I'm questioning dry synthetic filters, which have been my go-to ever since avoiding oiled versions.

Thoughts?

I have never used a dry but do like the idea of no oil for maintenance reasons. I have always wondered if it would be more restrictive to produce the same filtering capabilities as the oiled ones? I have never had MAF issues with oiled so never needed to try switching to dry. I think the trick is to not over oil filter

Only one thing should be oiled, you can also have it on Taco Tuesday or any day if you choose.

I also have had ZERO MAF issues with oiled filters and I've had either the drop in filters or a CAI kit for the past 8+ years between the 4 vehicles I've owned.(2015 Colorado-drop in, 2019 Traverse-drop in, 2020 Silverado TrailBoss-CAI and my 2023 ZL1-CAI). Yes. The trick is NOT over oiling them. I USUALLY clean/re-oil all of them twice a year(spring/fall), unless I notice them getting dirty quicker than that.

Roto-fab today:

The oiled filter has traditionally made more power than the dry. Feedback from many of our tuner/dealers supports the choice to use oiled filters as the best for power. Although the oiled filter is the best choice for power, recent technology has allowed the dry filter to close the power gap significantly.

That doesn't really tell us anything as it regards to this discussion. The fact is, almost all aftermarket filters that are made for high performance use are oiled. Rotofab is in the business of selling their product and they offer a dry filter for their standard Rotofab intake, but the Big Gulp which is designed for higher power applications only comes with an oiled filter, no dry filter option. There's a reason for that.
