This reasoning that GM should recall every new vehicle with a V8 engine produced during a certain time and replace all valve springs is ludicrous! Some engines are good and some aren’t just like the defective oil pumps in the LT4s. My 2017 ZL1 is so far good to go but I don’t know if one day the pump will fail and I know GM won’t do a recall so it’s just a waiting game for me. It may happen or may not.
I never said every V8. I said the ones they know have the bad valve springs.

And per my previous post they do know exactly which ones have the bad valve springs.

It’s my understanding from the article that even the gas engines in the trucks/SUVs can be affected too not just the Camaros. It’s just like before with my 2010 SS that it’s on a case to case basis that the spring/springs will be replaced if a failure does occur. I don’t agree or disagree with folks that GM should make a mandate/recall for all the V8s that were produced during the defective spring batches time period because the costs would further put GM in the hole. I do understand what folks are saying here though.

I think GM should send a notice to any owner that has the LT1 built during the time frame of the bad valve springs issue. I sure as hell don't want to go BOOM in heavy traffic and be stuck on the road and go thru all the bs and down time at the dealer.

So far i am fine at around 540 miles. Getting harder on it little by little and no probs yet.

Look how GM handled the C7 since 2015 with the A8 and rear end warble and cracked wheels with the Grand sports.

Exactly! You mention the C7, To take that a step further, my Mom owns a 2016 with the A8 and Z51 package. She got the infamous “watch your gas tank” letter, stating that if you smell gas to call your dealer. There was a run of defective gas tanks on the C7 but due to the fact you need to disassemble half the back of the car to remove it, GM is only recovering the TSB if you smell gas. Even though they absolutely know which tanks are bad.

Think about that..... if you smell gas call your dealer.

My 2013 C6 got the pass side gas tank leak.Seems many C6's had that problem. It was fixed for free and a job well done by a local dealer and done very fast in 1.5 days by a Vette tech that is very good. Whole rear of the car had to come off.

My C6 was trouble free other than the seat controller that is known to break over time.

Keep your fingers crossed just like me on the LT4 oil pump issue! Hopefully our engines are good and won’t go BOOM.👍

The issue is with the spring supplier. GM needs to take the action of recalling the engines that were built with them, then go after the supplier for their defective part.

I deal with defective parts all the time in what I do. We never take the hit and always fix the issue up front then deal with the vendor after the fact. I’m in medical equipment. GM is an worse functioning company than I thought if they can’t/don’t recoup their losses from vendors/suppliers for repair/replacement of said vendor/suppliers defective parts.

Good to know. So far in 4 years my Mom hasn’t had an issue with hers, and Lird willing she never will. She plans on keeping it forever.

Manufacturer is probably somewhere in China or Southeast Asia.

It might not be public information but absolutely there are people at GM who know exactly where each and every one of those valve springs came from, the plant location they were produced at, and the date they were received and then stocked and sorted for assembly at Tonowanda

Of course. GM uses either ISO 9001 or 9100. They would monitor vendor compliance continuously. My son manages the German company that supplies F1 and MotoGP engine valves and other racing parts and his customers apply the same except at the micron level

I think it was some generic name like Global Spring or something like that.

I will ask again, but I believe HPE installed Precision's dual springs in mine. We used Precision when racing Sonny's big 700+cid motor and 500cid prostock motors

Update: HPE used PSI.
