Now that the LT1 has been offered for two model years, I see a severe lack of new 1SS models. That may be due to Covid, but all new Camaro V8 listings seem to be LT1 or 2SS. I now wonder if dealers are going to be as willing to discount the rare 1SS.

I think the general public would have been much more keen on something like an LT2, where you get all the luxury features of the 2SS without the heavy duty performance mods. V8, yes

What “heavy duty” performance mods on are the 2SS? Rear brembos and some additional cooling?

It's money. Just like you see dealers ordering very few base model Mustangs.

In fact, down here there is only one LT1 within 50 miles of me and it's a soft top. When the dealers do carry a v8 Camaro it's always a loaded up SS pushing 50k or a rag top pushing 55k fully loaded.

Granted, on a forum like this I can see a lot of folks buying the LT1 more often if it was easy to find as it seems many on here just want a basic fast car and no luxury bells and whistles and save the money for mods. However, the general public wants cars loaded up with everything. We are a small percentage of the population.

Paid $31,900 USD in July for my 2020 LT1 .Riverside Blue, lip spoiler, NPP, M6 and upgrade alloy wheels. Sold the wheels for $500, paid $1000 for a new set of Carbon Flash staggered wheels on E Bay. Found out after purchase it has a PBC Plaque on the engine.

You upgraded only the wheels and not the tires?

This.

There were 4 LT1s on the Lot and 2 SS's. The money was not the factor. I went with the LT1 because I get all the power and none of the fluff. However, if it was going to be my daily, I may have opted for the SS. But this car is a toy for me and will spend most of its time in my garage until its time to play.

Leaving the dealership this week after an oil change and saw my first LT1. I thought it looked good other than the fact that the passenger side was caved in from the rear all the way to the front. Guess it got away from the owner.

I think it's a great concept, but the badging is pretty nasty IMO, and Chevy needs to rethink the way they are naming these cars. ZL1, 1SS, 2SS, LT1, LT, LS, then the RS or 1LE packages on top of that. Way too confusing.

It would have made a lot more sense to have an LS turbo 4, an LT six cylinder, an RS V8, an SS V8 (with the goodies the RS doesn't have), and the ZL1. Only one package available, the 1LE.

Put on a set of Nitto Drag Radials on the back which I would have done on the SS anyway.

Not confusing to those who are in the market. Chevy doesn’t advertise anyway. Knew I wanted the V8 with no options except A10. So I had one choice at the time, 1SS. Now with the LT1 there is a 2nd option.

Yes there is a ton of doubt. The LT1 on the street is every bit a perfomance car that the SS is With better tires added. Except the SS will last longer on a recetrack with the same performace of Lap 1. That is its advantage. But it too will fade before the SS 1LE, the track monster bargain of the century

Think of the LT1 as leaner and lighter SS For those who will not track at all. Or maybe they do a beginner/midlevel Track day once in a while after you add tires.

And I can add this, my M6 LT1 Is a tenth + faster than my 'M6 SS. My best on the SS stock was a middle 12.3@115 after hundreds of runs. With my LT1 I have run 12.10@116 with several 12.1s.

This sounds like high performance to me. I loved my SS, and would recomend the SS to anyone. For me the LT1 is a better fit and I saved some $$. I also like that the LT1 is a sleeper like the Road Runner and the LX 5.0s. Of course with monster DRs on, it fools no one.

As for acceleration in the 1/4 with the same transmission and tires: LT1 > SS > SS 1LE.

LT1 is definitely a performance car, it's just more geared toward the street and daily driving. You lose a couple bells and whistles and get same-size all-seasons on all four corners. For a car that's going to travel to work during the week and do some cruising and backroad runs on the weekend - all at something vaguely within the speed limit - it's all you need and will be cheaper to run. Plus - my opinion only - I think the LT body style retains more of the classic Coke bottle shape and looks better than the SS. A little. Both are obviously great.
